Role Summary

The primary function of the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) is to provide leadership and direction for pharmacy operations and services locally, in alignment with organizational, regional, and national pharmacy strategies direction by the applicable VP of Operations.

The Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) will directly oversee all pharmacy operations, including sterile compounding, non-sterile compounding, customer relations, dispensing, and quality assurance. The PIC will work directly with the pharmacists, technicians, and other pharmacy staff to ensure patient and physicians needs are met by maintaining/improving compounding processes to produce the highest quality compounded preparations.

Job Activities and Responsibilities: The responsibilities listed below are subject to change.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledgebase of current compounding best practices for all offered preparations and federal/state compounding regulations
  • Lead and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy including staff supervision, legal compliance, and maintenance/improvement of quality
  • Coordinate and delegate assignments/responsibilities to personnel to ensure pharmacy standards and compliance are achieved
  • Oversee/direct the training and validation all pharmacy personnel as it corresponds to their position and job requirements
  • Manage and provide feedback for on-going performance evaluations and address performance issues
  • Ensure compliance with all company SOPs, state/federal regulations, and accreditation body standards as applicable
  • Assist/directs in the development, revision, and implementation of pharmacy policies and procedures
  • Lead and facilitate regulatory and third-party pharmacy inspections annually as necessary
  • Other tasks as assigned

Finance:
  • Assists in assuring cost-effective operations, utilizing productivity improvement tools in addition to methods that ensure appropriate utilization of all products and services.
  • Leads the implementation of the department budget and resource plan.

People:
  • Provides leadership modeling of the RPC guidelines.
  • Meets with leadership team on an individual basis regarding individual performance.
  • Ensures highly competent staff and managers utilizing performance management, assessment, and training.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Pharm D required.
  • Registered pharmacist in pharmacy home state with formal training in nonsterile and sterile compounding or equivalent experience.
  • Must be knowledgeable of all Microsoft Office programs, Windows.
  • Must have home access to Internet.
  • Proficient use of Pharmacy Management System.
  • Management experience preferred. Compounding Pharmacy Experience (4 years) required

Physical Requirements:
  • Proficient in using a computer and related equipment, including printers and fax machines.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Effective communication skills via telephone and email.
  • Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds as needed.
  • 20/20 vision (with or without corrective aids) required for visual inspection of drug products, in accordance with legal requirements.
