Hastings Insurance is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join its IT Infrastructure team! The Senior Systems Engineer's role is to design and recommend technology solutions to ensure stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by understanding and using industry best practices and having in-depth knowledge of current and legacy systems.
Position Location & Schedule Details
  • Ideally, candidates will reside in the greater Hastings/Grand Rapids, Michigan, areas and work primarily remotely, with some in-office days each month.
    • Preference will be given to candidates who meet this qualification.
    • However, Hastings will consider candidates residing in one of our five coverage states (Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, or Wisconsin)
    • Candidates outside our five-state region may be considered if other application elements are strong.
  • Regardless of the location, the individual in this role will generally work within our standard office hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Given the nature of the role, some work may occur outside of these hours.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
  • Designs and recommends new processes or technology to improve the overall environment.
  • Creates technical documentation that aids team members in troubleshooting complex systems hardware and software problems.
  • Defines the metrics that must be monitored on all systems to maintain performance.
  • Researches and proposes innovative solutions to improve all systems' efficiency and/or security.
  • Designs and performs server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes per the company's disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
  • Ensures compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
  • Provides project management and leadership as assigned by the manager.
  • Provides technical guidance to junior members of the team.
  • Actively participates in professional development, i.e., continuing education or self-improvement.
  • Other duties assigned by leadership, either verbally or in writing.
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications
  • Associates or bachelor's degree in Information Systems or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Required Experience:
    • Windows Administration including:
      • Active Directory Management
      • Outlook/Exchange
      • PowerShell
      • IIS
    • Experience or knowledge of DevOps practices and concepts.
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Okta
      • CIAM/Terraform
      • Workforce
    • Octopus or equivalent deployment application
    • VMware/ESXi
    • Microsoft Office 365
    • Mainframe Integrations:
      • SNA
      • HIS
    • Enterprise Server Monitoring:
      • Zabbix
    • MSSQL Server Support
    • Hardware:
      • Dell Enterprise
      • NetApp SAN
  • Skilled in coordinating activities, evaluating data, establishing priorities, and problem-solving.
  • Good written, verbal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised.
