Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Job Specialty: ICU/ER/MedSurg
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts, 4 days per week, 07:00 - 19:00
Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
Experience: Minimum 2 years
License: Required
Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS
Must-Have: Recent ESI Triage experience and minimum 1 year of recent critical care experience
Job Description:
- Must be proficient in ICU, ER, and MedSurg as floating between these units is required.
- ICU has 4 beds, ER has 11 beds, and MedSurg has 19 beds.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are ICU: 1:2, ER: 1:4, and MedSurg: 1:5.
- Must hold BLS, ACLS, PALS (hospital can assist with PALS certification), and NIHSS certifications.
- Common diagnoses include sepsis, CIWA, respiratory support, and DKA; ED deals with Level 5 trauma and general emergency care.
- Requires experience in titrating drips, including insulin, vasopressors, and heparin.
- Charge nurse roles include a Hospital Resource Nurse available from 12:00 PM to 8:00 AM; charge nurse in ICU does not take an assignment, charge nurse in ED has an assignment.
- CNAs in ICU shared with MedSurg unit, ED has HUC/Tech roles.
- ED has a provider available 24/7; hospitalist on-site from 0700-1800 with telehealth support available 24/7.
- Respiratory therapy available 24/7 with Cpap, BiPap, and occasional ventilator use.
- RNs required to read their own telemetry strips in both ICU and ED; moving toward centralized monitoring for ICU.
- Scheduling based on unit needs with block scheduling considered; self-scheduling is encouraged.
- Weekend duty required every other week; holiday work as needed.
- Occasional call or standby requirement if the census is low.
- Floating within the region as needed to meet demand.
- One day of unit-specific orientation with additional shifts in different units if required.
