Job Description
Job Title: Physical Therapist (PT)
Job Specialty: Physical Therapy
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (Monday-Friday, generally 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM)
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of acute care experience preferred
License: SD PT License (willing to obtain)
Certifications: BLS required
Must-Have:
- Experience in a large hospital setting
Job Description:
- Evaluate and treat acute inpatient population with a diverse range of conditions.
- Conduct treatment in therapy departments and bedside; collaborate with other therapists as necessary.
- Demonstrate clinical reasoning, self-initiation, and clinical judgment in a fast-paced environment.
- Communicate effectively with various disciplines regarding patient status, needs, and discharge recommendations; attend interdisciplinary team rounds.
- Work collaboratively as a team player, providing assistance to coworkers and completing patient assignments.
- Supervise Physical Therapy Assistants (PTA) and therapy aides.
- Utilize computerized documentation systems and standard therapy equipment, including wheelchairs, assistive devices, modalities, and therapeutic exercise/balance equipment.
- Handle medical equipment such as oxygen, wound vacs, catheters, and chest tubes.
- May work alone in therapy gym or clinical area but never as the only therapist on staff for the day.
- Typically, 10-12 physical therapists are working Monday through Friday, with 4-5 on the weekends.
- No expectation to float to other departments.
- Hospital features 500+ beds with an average of 12-14 physical therapy patient evaluations/treatments daily.
- Orientation program includes assignment of a main mentor for consistency, and orientation is based on previous acute care experience.
- Weekend work is required one weekend per month, with no on-call duties required.
- Local candidates are welcomed.
