The City of Richmond Department of Emergency Communications, Preparedness and Response is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Technology Coordinator (Agency) to join the Department's Technology Division to provide information technology application management and security. The selected candidate will implement user support through complex technical support and troubleshooting and may serve as a lead worker. As assigned, work may include: providing technical leadership in the repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, and tuning of computer and communications systems; managing hardware and system installations or upgrade projects; coordinating with vendors for installation and maintenance; assisting and instructing lower level technicians; inspecting the quality of work performed by contractors; developing and providing user training; maintaining system documentation; maintaining work order and asset records; and performing data back-up and retrieval.
Incumbents will provide technical support for dispatch computer-aided dispatch software/systems, consoles, mobile data, emergency management and camera administration support. Work may Include radio programing, camera installations, emergency equipment installations, inventory management; applying FCC and FAA rules and regulations with regards to BDA and tower requirements; responding to emergencies and performing on-call work.
This position requires the availability to work overtime some weekends, as necessary.
This position is designated as Essential Personnel, which means that the incumbent is required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions or inclement weather.

Duties include but are not limited to
- Support and maintain the computer-aided dispatch software and systems.
- Provide technical assistance and support to dispatchers, supervisors, and other users of the 9-1-1 systems at the Emergency Communications Center.
- Support the Mobile Command Post for deployments and provide the first line of support for all technology on the vehicle.
- Support the Mobile Camera Trailer for deployments and provide the first line of support for all technology on the vehicle.
- Installations of new technology equipment in Public Safety vehicles.
- Programing and deployment of Radio communication devices.
- Installation of camera hardware and software.
- Support during and after hours for EOC activations.
- Conduct annual inventory of all technology equipment in the department.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for both the technology staff and end-users.
- Perform routine system maintenance, updates, and upgrades to ensure functionality and compliance with regulatory standards. Troubleshoot and resolve systems issues, minimizing downtime during emergencies.
- Test and deploy new features of technologies to improve system capabilities and efficiency.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of system configurations, procedures, and policies.
- Lead projects to upgrade or implement new 9-1-1 system components.
- Provide on call support for the department for technology needs.
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associate degree in computer science or related field
- Three years of maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair experience in area of assignment
- Bachelor's degree in computer science preferred
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
- Experience with administration of and supporting computer-aided dispatch software or other Public Safety Systems and SQL database administration preferred
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Some assignments may require a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire.
- Incumbents assigned to telecommunications systems must have (preferred) or must obtain a FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) within one year of hire.
- Some agencies may have other specific requirements.
