Position Details
As an Associate Planner, you will coordinate and assist the planning department with activities related to zoning, development review, long-range comprehensive planning, and policy planning. You will also represent the City in interactions with community members, consultants, and public agencies.

This role is non-exempt and has a starting salary of $79,102.40 annually, depending on qualifications.
How you'll use your strengths every day
The Associate Planner values people and perspectives by:
  • Communicating with stakeholders regarding site and project proposal concerns or questions.
  • Actively working with applicants, consultants, the community, and City staff to evaluate development applications.
They are on the leading edge when they:
  • Monitor Met Council and other regional and state planning agency activities.
  • Research and recommend trends and developments in municipal planning.
And they expect the best by:
  • Implementing and assisting the planning team in administering zoning, subdivision, and city code regulations.
  • Preparing recommendations for and presenting to the Planning Commission.

What you'll bring to help you be successful
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in planning, urban studies, public administration, landscape architecture, or a related field
  • Two years of experience in planning, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Local government experience preferred
