The Physician Assistant is an independent health care provider who coordinates inpatient/outpatient care through collaboration with the Physician. The PA provides care in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures of the practice and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners/Physician Assistant Advisory Committee.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Graduate of an AMA accredited Physician Assistant program and licensed by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners,
- Successful of all required orientation programs,
- CDS, DEA, BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Must obtain ATLS within the first year of employment
Scheduling Requirements:
- Full-Time
- 40 hours
Essential Functions:
- Provides pre-operative, operative and post-operative patient care, under the direction and supervision of the attending surgeon and in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures of the hospital and the state Physician Assistant Act,
- Responds to and participates in the evaluation and resuscitation of trauma patients,
- Will act as the neurosurgical liaison by evaluating and informing the on call neurosurgeon of new and established patients,
- Observe and care for the service patients in the surgical intensive care unit, inform critical care intensivist of patient condition, and participate in daily rounds,
- Will assist in Neurosurgical and Neuroendovascular procedures and operation.
- Enhances professional growth and development through attendance and/or participation in CME programs,
- Obtains and records detailed and accurate case histories and physical examination at the direction of supervising physician,
- Participates in the education of medical and physician assistant students,
- Participates in delivery of health care services to patients' records progress notes, requests non-invasive diagnostic studies,
- Performs routine therapeutic procedures which have been ordered, prescribed or directed by supervising physician, and may include giving injections, administering medications and requesting diagnostic studies,
- Provides patient counseling and patient education service at the direction of supervising physician; facilitates referral of patients to hospital services as appropriate transcribes or executes specific orders at the direction of supervising physician, and records detailed narrative case summaries,
- Reports observations in progress notes, delineates problems and presents findings to supervising physician,
- Sutures and cares for wounds, removes sutures and clips, and changes dressing under the supervision of supervising physician,
- Performs numerous procedures that include but are not limited to perform or assist the insertion of EVD (External Ventriculostomy drains), ICP (Intracranial pressure) monitors, and Lumbar drains.
- Have the capability to work a rotating schedule that includes day, night, weekend and holiday shifts.
