Position Summary

Portland Community College's Dental Hygiene program is seeking two full-time instructors to join our team, effective Fall 2025 at the start of the academic year.

Portland Community College's (PCC) Dental Hygiene Program is a regional leader in educating the next generation of Dental Hygienists. We are currently looking for full-time faculty members who have strong current content knowledge and experience, who can balance academic rigor with practical application, and are committed to culturally responsive teaching.

Successful candidates will be available to teach in-person at the college's Vanport Building as well as be available for in-person student meetings, industry partner meetings, and other college and program functions.

Candidate Profile

These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.

During the screening process, candidates will be evaluated based on their demonstration of these qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience training or teaching dental hygiene students, staff, or co-workers from diverse backgrounds and with variable skill levels while providing constructive feedback.
  • Management, leadership, or supervisory experience in a dental hygiene clinical and/or educational environment
  • Experience in program development, curriculum revisions, or change implementation in academic or clinical settings.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current practice and industry advancements within the scope of dental hygiene practice such as dental hygiene diagnosis, nonsurgical periodontal therapy, digital radiography, restorative and preventive dentistry.
  • Continuing education and advanced degrees and credentials relevant to the position.
  • A Master's degree in a field related to education or dental hygiene is desirable. Additional credentials are a plus such as Local Anesthesia Endorsement, Nitrous Oxide Permit, Expanded Practice Permit, Restorative Functions Endorsement, CDA credential, and active membership in professional associations, such as ADHA and/or ADEA.
  • Effective collaboration with industry and clinical partners.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, applicants must meet these minimum qualifications (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Registered Dental Hygienist
  • Graduate of a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation
  • Associate degree in Dental Hygiene
  • Baccalaureate degree in any field
  • Current active dental hygiene license in the state of Oregon
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR/BLS
  • Oregon Local Anesthesia Endorsement
  • Oregon Nitrous Oxide Permit
  • Minimum of three years of full time experience as a clinical dental hygienist (or equivalent of 3500 hours within the last 5 years)
  • Current immunization records: Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR), Varicella, Hepatitis B, TB Test, Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap), Influenza, COVID-19 Vaccination


* (Out-of-state candidates must include comparable licenses and endorsements, with Oregon requirements to be met prior to initial teaching assignment).

  • Experience teaching in a dental hygiene program
  • Expanded Practice Permit
  • Restorative Functions Endorsement
  • Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential
  • Clinical experience as a dental assistant
  • Active membership in the American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA)

Starting Salary Expectations
Initial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($73,911) and Step 3 (78,408) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement.

PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.
Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.

* Please note: Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.

Paid Leave:
1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)
21 hours of additional personal leave per year
4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)

Please note that Portland Community College is not currently able to provide visa (e.g. H1-B Visa) sponsorship for potential employees.
Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.

Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard.
