Amazon Stores Security - IAM (Identity and Access Management) is seeking a highly motivated and driven Senior Applied Scientist to lead initiatives aimed at automate Amazon's permission management via fine-grained access policies.
Amazon Stores IAM Security is driving multi-year human access reduction program, prioritizes and implements controls for the interaction points where builders access production systems at infrastructure layer, admin layer and application layer. We are transitioning application authorization to an automated permission management model, reducing the burden of creating authorization policies and baselining for application owners.
As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will solve large complex real-world problems at scale, draw inspiration from the latest science and technology to empower undefined/untapped business use cases, delve into customer requirements, collaborate with tech teams on design, and create production-ready models that span various domains. Your primary focus will be on designing, developing, and deploying highly innovative modeling techniques to production to automate the permissions management across tens of thousands of systems.
Key job responsibilities
- 5+ years of industry experience in Deep learning, Natural Language Processing/Understanding, Reinforcement learning and Speech processing
- PhD, or a Master's degree and experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application
- Experience in solving business problems through machine learning, data mining and statistical algorithms
- Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy etc.
- Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
