The opportunity
AustralianSuper's Private Equity (PE) strategy is to be a trusted capital partner alongside our strategic partners (GPs) across fund commitments, co-investments and co-underwrites. The strategy includes the continued build-out of the New York team, as part of a global team.
As Senior Manager, Private Equity Monitoring, you will be accountable for reporting on the performance of and ensuring the successful administration of the Private Equity portfolio. This position will formally establish AustralianSuper's dedicated portfolio monitoring team, which will involve an assessment and augmentation of the existing portfolio monitoring function, active recruitment of additional team members and thereafter, people leadership and management of the portfolio monitoring team.
This role is based on-site at 1251 Avenues of the Americas, with a hybrid work schedule; and will report to the Head of Private Equity, who is based in New York.

The compensation range for this position is $700,000 to $800,000 (this is based on full-time hours, located in New York City). The base pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience and refers to the amount AustralianSuper is willing to pay at the time of posting.

As Senior Manager, Private Equity Monitoring, you will be accountable for reporting on the performance of and ensuring the successful administration of the Private Equity portfolio. Key responsibilities
Portfolio monitoring & management
- Lead the preparation of performance monitoring documents on fund investments, co-investments, and co-underwrite investments.
- Work with transaction and relationship management teams to collect and input performance data.
- Administer capital calls and distributions, make recommendations on corporate actions and other GP and fund-level actions and requests.
- Oversee and manage end-to-end legacy GPs.
- Assist in the implementation and ongoing management of a fund-wide portfolio management system.
- Monitor compliance with internal and transaction documentation at the (i) total portfolio level, (ii) portfolio company level, and (iii) fund level.
- Monitor investment return expectations.
- Act as central point of contact for GP information including managing incoming data requests and sharing information provided by GPs to other AustralianSuper teams.
- Conduct ad hoc analysis on portfolio company, GP or portfolio level to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
Portfolio reporting
- Prepare and maintain detailed quarterly monitoring reports, consisting of portfolio level reviews and individual asset tear sheets, which include financial and operating metrics and commentary, valuation analyses, risk assessments, and compliance with internal asset ownership principles.
- Prepare reports on portfolio composition as measured by geography, sector, asset, GP to assist on portfolio construction targets.
- Prepare various ad hoc reports that may be requested by internal stakeholders, such as contributions to Investment Committee and Board reports.
People leadership & management
- Take the lead role in the recruitment and onboarding of junior asset monitoring professionals.
- Mentor and manage less experienced colleagues.
- Contribute to fostering cultural growth in a growing private equity team, which sits within a growing New York office.
What we're looking for
- At least 15 years professional experience, with 10+ years of private equity portfolio management/monitoring experience.
- Relevant tertiary degree.
- CFA or portfolio management accreditation desired but not required.
- Strong fundamental analytical skills including financial modelling skills and financial acumen.
- Strong technical knowledge of private equity investments, including a deep understanding of financial and operational analytics, performance metrics, fund and GP-level performance metrics for day-to-day administration of a PE portfolio.
- Experience with planning, prioritizing and managing resources to achieve objectives.
- Experience establishing and managing operational processes across multiple teams.
