The Farmington Public School District is seeking an outstanding educator for the position of Art Department Leader for Grades K-12. Farmington is a suburban Hartford community with a strong record of educational excellence. Farmington High School has 1400 students and 100+ faculty members. The Art Department Leader is an integral part of school and district leadership teams which are committed to continuous instructional and programmatic improvement to ensure that all students meet rigorous standards.

In addition to strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, candidates should have at least five years of successful Art experience and must hold or be eligible for Connecticut teaching certification in Art (042). In addition, candidates must hold or be eligible for an Intermediate Administrator (092).

Department Leaders oversee curriculum, instruction, and assessment in their content area. Working closely with the school administration, they contribute to school improvement goals and work together as a team to lead all aspects of continuous improvement that are responsive to teacher needs and focused on school goals and priorities. Some department leaders have K-12 supervisory responsibilities, however all participate in the vertical alignment of programming K to 12. Department Leaders provide effective instructional supervision and support to teachers aimed at ensuring that students learn core content knowledge and skills as well as the competencies and dispositions articulated in the FPS Vision of the Global Citizen. They develop a schedule, assign teachers, and monitor curriculum and assessment implementation. They are also responsible for overseeing instructional intervention programs and required testing. They develop an annual budget, maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies, and support building operations. Department Leaders participate in recruitment and hiring. develop positive relationships with colleagues, parents, and students and work collaboratively to ensure that all children achieve academic and personal growth. As teachers, they demonstrate all aspects of CT's Code of Professional Responsibility.

Salary range for holding Master's/Master's Plus starts at $58,968 - $111,829 depending upon education and experience,plus Department Leader Stipend (differentiated for 092 certification), which requires 4 additional work days beyond the teacher contract. Appointment renewed annually.

Qualifications:
  • Must hold or be eligible for CT State Teaching Certification in the area for which a job opening exists AND hold or be eligible for the 092 Administrative Certification
