Position Summary:Reportingto the Director of Core Systems and Cloud Services, the Storage SystemsAdministrator position focuses on supporting Research and High-PerformanceComputing (HPC) environments. The role requiresexpertise in Linux systems administration, distributed file systems, andcluster file systems such as GPFS (IBM Spectrum Scale). Experience withadvanced technologies like Kalray Ngenea is highly desirable. The StorageSystems Administrator will play a critical role in supporting computationalresearch initiatives, requiring a proactive problem-solver who thrives in afast-paced and innovative environment.
Essential Functions:-Implement, maintain, and optimize distributed and cluster file systems, with a focus on GPFS (IBM Spectrum Scale).
-Analyze storage performance issues and optimize to ensure high data availability for research workloads.
-Develop and maintain documentation for system architecture, workflows, knowledge articles, and best practices.
-Support and integrate storage technologies such as Kalray Ngenea to enhance storage capabilities.
-Manage, configure and maintain Linux-based systems supporting HPC infrastructure.
-Ensure the availability, performance and security of Linux servers.
-Maintain up to date storage and server systems firmware and software according to best practices.
-Ensure the security of research systems, including compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
Prerequisite Qualifications:-3+ years of experience as a Linux systems administration with a focus on RHEL or similar distributions.
-Experience working in HPC environments, with working knowledge of cluster management and distributed computing.
-Experience scripting in Bash, Python, or other relevant scripting languages to automate repetitive tasks.
-Solid understanding of networking, security (SSH, firewalls), and system performance tuning in a Linux environment.
-Knowledge of distributed file systems and cluster file systems like GPFS.
-Experience with storage tiering solutions, including on-prem and cloud based tiering.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research-driven environment.
- Willingness to learn and cross train-train peers.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Preferred Qualifications:-Proficiency in Red Hat Linux operating systems (RHEL).
-Experience with Kalray Ngenea/Pixstor technologies.
-Scripting and automation skills (e.g., Bash, Python, Ansible).
-Familiarity with Splunk.
-Experience with NetApp Storage systems.
-Experience with AWS storage technologies (S3, Glacier, EFS, etc.).
-Understanding of NIST 800-171, CMMC compliance, and CIS benchmarks as they apply to research computing environments.
-Effective communication skills to support interdisciplinary research teams.
