Reporting to the VP of Design, Construction, and Asset Management, this role is responsible for developing, managing, directing, and overseeing the implementation of strategies related to Retail Facility Services, Corporate Facility Services, and Procurement. The Director will provide visionary leadership, direction, and coaching to the Facilities team, proactively managing repair and maintenance services across all locations in Canada. This role ensures the full execution of deliverables with a high degree of customer service. The Director will lead a team that partners with internal stakeholders at Staples Canada in the areas of Facilities and Procurement. The incumbent must demonstrate exceptional innovation and dynamic leadership, ensuring Staples develops and adopts new and innovative internal and external best practices on a national scope.

The Director will provide visionary leadership, direction, and coaching to the Facilities team, proactively managing repair and maintenance services across all locations in Canada. This role ensures the full execution of deliverables with a high degree of customer service. The Director will lead a team that partners with internal stakeholders at Staples Canada in the areas of Facilities and Procurement. The incumbent must demonstrate exceptional innovation and dynamic leadership, ensuring Staples develops and adopts new and innovative internal and external best practices on a national scope.
Specifically, You Will:
- Budget Creation, expense and capital for Enterprise facilities.
- Direct the execution and work completion of annual capital requests Lead and manage complex cross functional projects; creates strategy and manages execution ensuring completion on time and within budget.
- Direct the execution and work completion of annual demand repair requests and preventative maintenance programs, services.
- Oversee the after-hours response network and receive emergency response calls as required.
- Provide leadership to store managers and home office associates with the goal of driving elevated facilities standards in a wide variety of facility related categories (service programs, maintenance programs, demand management, etc).
- Develop/ delegate and oversee maintenance of learning mechanisms that support better understanding of equipment, supplies, and programs that help keep our stores and home office safe, effective and efficient.
- Oversee management of relationships, dispute resolution and contract negotiations with vendor/contractor partners.
- Oversee Security Systems in partnership with others as required: Access Control, CCTV, Alarm systems compliance/operation for Corporate Office.
- Creation of the Procurement functions in Canada by leveraging a positive relationship with the Staples Global Sourcing team. Manage all procurement for the Facility Services and Retail department (includes Asset Prevention, New Store Development, Store Communications, Operational Supplies) as well as any projects brought forward by the Sr. Manager, Health & Safety.
Some of what you need:
- Post Secondary -college or university.
- Post Secondary - Facilities accreditation: Facility Management Professional (FMP), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Retail Facility Management Professional (RFMP) for example.
- LEED Associate, LEED AP preferred.
- 8-10 years Facility Management - preferably National retail and supply chain.
- 7 years managing staff
- Experience with Waste Diversion programs, provincial stewardship programs, rebate applications.
