The Principal Salesforce Engineer in the NiSource IT department is a leadership role responsible for driving the delivery and continuous improvement of technical solutions that support key work asset management platforms This role involves hands-on technical work, problem-solving, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions. As a Principal Engineer, you will lead the charge in ensuring that our technical solutions align with strategic business goals and drive innovation within the organization.
The Principal Salesforce Engineer at NiSource IT department is a leadership role focused on driving the delivery and continuous improvement of technical solutions for Salesforce platforms. This position involves hands-on development, technical guidance, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality software solutions. The Principal Salesforce Engineer leads large transformation programs, aligns technical solutions with strategic business goals, and stays updated with industry trends to drive innovation within the organization. As a Principal Engineer you will lead a team of up to 30 members across multiple workstreams, ensuring efficient, and effective project execution.

Summary
The Principal IT Engineer in the NiSource IT department is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing Salesforce solutions. This role requires hands-on technical work, problem-solving, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality Salesforce solutions. The engineer will create unit, integration, and automated acceptance tests, make design decisions based on Enterprise Architecture standards, and develop readable, maintainable, testable, and performant Salesforce solutions. Additionally, the role involves ensuring solutions include monitoring, logging, metrics gathering, system health, and reporting. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, participate in code/configuration reviews, diagnose and resolve technical issues, and stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies. To qualify for this position, candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent work experience, along with 10+ years of relevant IT product/platform engineering or software development experience. Proven experience in business transformation initiatives and leadership skills to support, mentor, and grow junior engineers are essential. Candidates should have basic knowledge of Salesforce Service Cloud, Sales Cloud, custom development using Apex, Lightning, and Visualforce, as well as experience with server-side programming languages (Java preferred), REST services, microservices (MuleSoft preferred), cloud services (Azure and Kubernetes preferred), and DevOps practices.

- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience

- 3+ years of experience utilizing Apex source code
- Experience as a technical lead, leading large transformation programs, and aligning technical solutions with strategic business goals
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
- Professional certifications in relevant IT areas (e.g., Salesforce)
- Experience in a similar industry or sector
- Experience using Youreka Forms
- Experience using Copado DevOps platform
