Bio-Medical Engineeringwithin theSchulich School of Engineeringinvites applications for aSenior Project Coordinator, A-MEDICO. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 24 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to principal investigator, this position will play a critical role in Biomedical Engineering research as part of a pan-Alberta network of researchers, industry, and healthcare stakeholders poised to reorganize, reinvigorate, and redefine Alberta's medical device sector. This role will be part of the A-MEDICO Alberta Medical Device Innovation Consortium, an Alberta Major Innovation Fund initiative. The incumbent will support collaborations between researchers within A-MEDICO across the province and beyond, working with a wide range of stakeholders with multiple research projects.
This position typically operates on a regular work schedule (Monday to Friday) with occasional variances in start and end time, is primarily on campus (minimum 4 days per week) and may be expected to attend events or provide service outside normal working hours. It is anticipated that this position will require some local travel.
Summary of Key Responsibilities(job functions include but are not limited to):
- Develops and maintains excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders involved with Biomedical Engineering research initiatives associated with the A-MEDICO initiative.
- Identifies new collaboration possibilities across campus and actively fosters productive work relationships, including identifying key stakeholders and bringing them together.
- Develops and implements action plans for the creation and delivery of activities and initiatives.
- Takes responsibility for the successful completion of projects including tracking outcomes.
- Provides both leadership and project management for large grant applications ensuring alignment with program objectives, timelines and budgets.
- Recommends actions, suggestions, assists with writing and frequent follow-ups to ensure progress.
- Plans and coordinates meetings, workshops, industry days, conferences, and other activities involving academic, industry, and government partners. This includes coordinating room bookings, catering, managing registration, developing event content, and attending the events.
- Liaises with researchers and partners, responding to communication enquiries as needed.
- Assists with data collection, management and analysis of BME research activity.
- Works closely with the A-MEDICO Executive, Activation Programs, and Team Leads on communication to stakeholders and developing reports and presentations.
- Organize interactions between Theme leads, Activation Program coordinators, A-MEDICO researchers, and external partners.
- Prepares and presents status reports; provides timely and accurate information and updates, including reporting to the Alberta government.
- Provides senior level administrative support to A-MEDICO leadership.
- Assist with compiling information and maintaining the A-MEDICO website.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- A post-secondary education (MSc or PhD) in science, kinesiology, medicine or engineering is required.
- 5 or more years of progressive experience in a senior administrative role is required.
- Excellent knowledge of the biomedical engineering sector is required.
- Strong knowledge of the academic research landscape is required
- Extensive experience in the implementation of biomedical engineering or health-related projects and initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to work with multidisciplinary networking / team building
- Highly effective organizational skills and a strategic planning skillset are required
- Ability to effectively negotiate solutions to complex problems and balance competing interests.
- Knowledge of and experience with project management
- Knowledge of and general understanding of research-related activities such as manuscript reviews, grant writing, planning of scientific meetings.
- Excellent organizational and analytic skills and the ability to develop innovative solutions that meet the needs of diverse partners.
- Proficiency with computers and a variety of software including Microsoft Office, web-based marketing, social media, videoconferencing.
- Knowledge of the University core business systems (PeopleSoft) is an asset
- Proven ability to demonstrate personal initiative and to work independently.
