HOURLY RANGE: $38.384 - $52.697
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves the operation and maintenance of
echocardiographic equipment in the Center for Cardiovascular Care at the Erie County Medical Center
Corporation (ECMCC). The incumbent performs a variety of technical patient care and related duties
under general supervision of the Technical Director Echocardiography. Supervision is not a function of
this position. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Schedules echocardiograms for patients;
Performs medically prescribed echocardiography procedures such as transthoracic, transesophageal
testing and echocardiography stress test;
Performs preliminary editing of echocardiographic data;
Attends in-service and other training courses to remain current in the field;
Maintains records of echocardiograms administered;
Disseminates final reports to in-patients and out-patient records as well as to referring physician;
Transports equipment to on-site of acute or emergency echocardiographic study within ECMCC;
Assists physicians in performance of transesophageal echocardiograms including patient set-up, patient
monitoring and patient transport to recovery;
Participates in the development of departmental goals and objectives.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of technical practices, procedures and techniques of
echocardiography; good knowledge of the science of echocardiography; ability to perform technical
echocardiography work on patients; ability to recognize abnormal echocardiographic information; ability
to maintain echocardiography equipment; ability to transport echocardiography equipment; ability to
communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working
relations with a diverse constituency; sound professional judgment; capable of performing the essential
functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A.) Possession of an Associate's Degree* or higher degree in Echocardiography, Sonography,
Vascular Technology, Ultrasound Technology, Radiologic Technology or closely allied health
field; or:
B.) Completion of a certificate program* in Echocardiography, Sonography, Vascular Technology,
Ultrasound Technology, Radiologic Technology or closely allied health field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Eligibility for certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) as issued by the
American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) at time of appointment;
Possession of certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) as issued by the
American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) within six (6) months of initial
appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment.
NOTE*: Your degree or certificate must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a
regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of
Education/ U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside
the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of
