Seattle Public Utilities is currently seeking a Pipe Assessor (Senior Civil Engineering Specialist) to support the drainage rehabilitation work and provide critical subject matter expertise to SPU's Pipe Asset Management Program. This position is responsible for managing Seattle's Drainage & Wastewater system and ensuring the continuity of our asset management. This position reports to the Pipe Assessment Supervisor in the DWW Line of Business.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assess condition of drainage and wastewater pipe assets.
  • Identify defects and recommend rehabilitation methods or techniques.
  • Provide technical expertise for:
    • Pipe rehabilitation projects
    • Sewer builds over and abandonment issues
    • Field construction and maintenance work
    • Coordination with other City departments (e.g., Seattle Department of Transportation)
  • Prepare work order details and rehabilitation packages for DWW System Maintenance crews and contractor work
  • Serve as a technical resource for DWW System Maintenance, Project Delivery & Engineering Branch, other City agencies, developers, and rate payers who encounter unusual/non-standard situations
  • Perform other duties of a comparable level/type, as required.

Qualifications
Experience: Four (4) years of Civil Engineering experience.

Education: An Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or two years of college level coursework in Engineering and Construction Technology.

Experience/Education Equivalency: A Combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class may substitute for the required education or experience

License and Certification Requirements: Valid Washington State Driver's License

The ideal candidate should possess:
  • Drainage and wastewater field experience
  • PACP Certification
  • Extensive knowledge of the wastewater industry and pipe rehabilitation
  • Experience with Asset Management Software or comparable application
  • Proficiency with software such as Maximo, ArcGIS, Utiliview, FOMS, Granite, and Microsoft Suite Programs (specifically Word & Excel)
  • Ability to create reports, perform extensive research, give presentations, and run meetings

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
  • Most work is performed in a normal City work/office environment
  • Field assignments will require exposure to all types of weather, traffic, hazardous/toxic substances and work in, or near, construction sites
  • Use of proper personal protective equipment is required at construction sites
  • May be required to stand, walk, or bend, for extended periods of time
