DIRECTOR OF SELF PERFORM

The Director of Self Perform is responsible for leading and managing the company's self-perform construction operations. This role requires a strategic and operational leader who will oversee the execution of construction projects across multiple disciplines, ensuring quality, efficiency, safety, and profitability. The position involves hands-on technical expertise and strong leadership to drive business growth, team development, and successful project outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Oversee all self-perform activities, ensuring construction work is completed on time, within budget, and meets quality standards.
Develop and enforce technical standards, specifications, and processes to ensure high levels of quality and safety.
Lead and manage project scheduling, resource allocation, and procurement to ensure timely delivery of projects.
Monitor daily construction activities, including work progress, and ensure any potential issues are addressed proactively.
Evaluate and recommend innovative construction methods, technologies, and materials to improve project efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, building codes, and regulations. Ensure that all materials and workmanship meet or exceed industry standards.
Identify potential construction risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Ensure the implementation of effective safety protocols across all self-perform activities.
Develop, track, and manage project budgets and costs for self-performed work. Perform cost analysis and adjust plans as needed to maintain cost-effective execution.
Collaborate with estimating and pre-construction teams to accurately estimate costs and prepare competitive bids.
Develop pricing models, strategies, and guidelines for self-performed work to ensure competitiveness in the marketplace.
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
Regularly report to the leadership team on project status, financial performance, and key challenges.
Oversee the acquisition and management of equipment, materials, and personnel required for self-perform projects in collaboration with designated Field Operations team.
Ensure efficient utilization and maintenance of equipment, machinery, and workforce.
Participate in negotiations on subcontractor agreements and self-perform contracts. Ensure all contractual obligations are met and maintain proper documentation and compliance with all contractual terms.
Collaborate with the leadership team to define and execute the strategic direction of the self-perform group within the broader organizational strategy.
Assist with, mentoring, and develop a high-performing self-perform team, including project managers, foremen, craft professionals, and support staff.
Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the self-perform division.
Promote company's safety program, ensuring all self-perform activities are conducted in compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
Promote a zero-incident culture by continuously reviewing safety protocols and addressing any hazards or risks.

LEADERSHIP

This is a hands-on role that requires time in the field. This position must have the ability to coach and mentor staff as needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
A minimum of 15 years of hands-on / field experience in self-perform construction operations is required.
Knowledge of construction methods, techniques, and materials.
Strong understanding of scheduling, budgeting, and resource management.
Expertise in construction-related software, such as Procore, or similar project management tools is highly desired.
Thorough knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements.
Financial management skills, including cost estimating, budgeting, and forecasting.
Experience negotiating contracts and terms with clients and subcontractors.
Proven ability to drive business growth through the expansion of self-perform capabilities.
Excellent leadership abilities with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to inspire and drive a culture of safety, quality, and excellence.
Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to work with diverse teams of skilled tradespeople and contractors.
