Data Scientist, Artificial Intelligence

Classification: FLSA Exempt

Reports To: Senior Research Scientist, Artificial Intelligence

Summary

Assists internal teams to improve new and existing classifier models, evaluate areas for improvement, particularly in the data. Participates in the research and development of computational tools related to Indica Labs' HALO AI platform.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of AI-related research projects.
  • Assist AiDx and Pharma Services team in testing new models and hyperparameter tuning.
  • Identify areas where classifier needs to be improved, and which type of additional training data is required.
  • Develop computational methods for the classification, segmentation, stratification, or characterization of features of interest in multimodal datasets.
  • Interface with internal and external collaborators in project development and execution.
  • Maintain an awareness of emerging research trends in the fields of image analysis, deep learning, computer vision, etc. which inform product development.
  • Responsible for the appropriate accessing and handling of electronic Protected Health Information (PHI) as outlined by policy and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (or international equivalent) in quantitative discipline, e.g. computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, biomedical engineering, physics, statistics, or mathematics.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience, especially related to AI software development.
  • Authorization to work in the United States, or appropriate authorization to work in the applicant's current home country (Indica Labs, Inc. does not sponsor work visas)


Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree (PhD/Masters or international equivalent) in quantitative discipline, e.g. computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, biomedical engineering, physics, statistics, or mathematics.
  • Preference given to applicants currently residing in New Mexico.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Expertise in one or more machine learning frameworks, e.g. pytorch, mxnet, tensorflow, JAX.
  • Expertise in best practices for scientific reproducibility and version control.
  • Experience working with large-scale imaging datasets containing hundreds or thousands of whole slide images and associated clinical metadata.
  • Proficiencies in object-oriented programming languages, e.g. Python, C#, C++, and data analysis libraries.
  • Intellectual curiosity and domain knowledge which drives interesting and tractable research questions.
  • Ability to deliver presentations on complex research topics to diverse, interdisciplinary scientific audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability of working in highly collaborative environments.
