The Geophysicist located in Houston Texas is responsible for assisting in delivery of safe, efficient, and reliable products and services to our customers. The job consults with operations groups as needed to support the area of expertise and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement of product and service delivery and formally communicates findings. The Geophysicist actively participates in promoting new technology and services offerings and supports the product line in risk management and applying lessons learned to improve job design and execution as related to the area of expertise. They provide real-time support to operations as required. The Geosolutions Geophysicist is responsible for contributing expertise in various acquisition and processing techniques and geophysics, and an understanding of interpretation and inversion.

  • Depth imaging with extensive velocity model building experience using Full Wave Inversion (FWI).
  • Provide technical support in the area of expertise throughout the Sales and Product and Service Delivery process.
  • Assist in evaluating technical viability and overall appraisal of tenders as related to the area of expertise.
  • Consult with Design/Technical Engineer role as required to optimize the technical design.
  • Design seismic imaging workflows to improve quality of subsurface images for a given geological setting.
  • Define, build and submit test jobs, interpret test results, provide recommendations on parameters and recommend further testing, if required.
  • Process data using the appropriate technology and software.
  • Interface consistently with customers and advise them regarding processing parameters.
  • Validate the accuracy and efficiency of all testing and production job sequences.
  • Ensure that processed data is delivered to customers on schedule.
  • Archive projects.
  • Assist the Project Leader with daily project and personnel management, including quality control.
  • Assist in real-time incident response, recovery, and investigation as related to the area of expertise.
  • Keep abreast of developments and new technologies within seismic data processing and communication and data transfer techniques.
  • Assist with identifying areas where new and cost-effective techniques can be applied.
  • Explore opportunities for value-added products and services.
  • Maintain customer visibility through active participation in professional society activities and calls for papers.
  • Participate in external technical societies and communities.
  • Contribute, write and review technical publications.
  • Mentor junior staff.
  • The compensation and reference to benefits for this role is listed on this posting in compliance with applicable law. The selected candidate's compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, qualifications, and other business and organizational needs. Please note that the compensation and benefits listed below are only applicable to successful candidates who are hired onto local payroll.
  • At SLB, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at/near the top of the range. The anticipated annual salary for this position is $140k-$145k.
  • Candidates must have the legal right to work in the US without visa sponsorship.

  • Job Experience and Qualifications
  • BSc in Geophysics. Alternative acceptable disciplines in conjunction with work experience would include Physics, Geology or Engineering.
  • 5+ years of Geophysics experience with minimum 2+ years of Full Wave Inversion (FWI) experience.
  • Exposure to programming and software development for seismic data imaging will be considered a positive addition.
  • English language fluency with the capability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
