Position Overview

Alberta Transportation has awarded Aecon with a $595 million contract for the Deerfoot Trail Improvements project, located inCalgary, Alberta. Construction will consist of seven new bridges, additional lanes, and improvements to ramps and interchanges. Construction is scheduled for completion by fall of 2027.

Reporting into the Quality Manager, theField Review Engineercertifies that specific construction points are in compliance with the Technical Requirements of the contract.

What youll do here:

  • Conduct site inspections to ensure construction confirms to the detail design and technical requirements.
  • Review the reports of inspection and testing performed in MSE walls.
  • Confirm that any design changes have been signed and sealed by the Design Engineer.
  • Confirm that the detailed designs are the latest version submitted to the Department.
  • Ensure the construction proceeds according to the provisions of the contract.
  • Record any changed conditions encountered, observations made, and deficiencies found during site visits.
  • Identify any Non-conformance work and reporting.
  • Stamp certificate which indicates the work was built according to the designs including any design changes.
  • Assures that the construction ofMSE walls substantially conforms to the Detailed Design and to the Technical Requirements.
  • Authenticates a certificate stating that the construction has been built in accordance to the Detailed Design and to the Technical Requirements.
  • The certificate will be at a minimum after completion of each foundation base preparation and before construction of the wall and prior to each substructure concrete placement.

What you bring to the team:

  • Field Review Engineer shall be a Professional Engineer with a minimum of 5 years experience in MSE Wall construction.
  • Experience in road works (subgrade, base and surfacing) and or drainage, utility work
  • Professional Engineer Designation in Alberta
  • Understanding of rules and regulations on a construction site, particularly with MSE wall construction.
  • Experience working on large, complex civil infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working with public, department of transportation clients.
  • Experience and knowledge with Internationally Recognized Codes & Standards.
  • Experience interfacing with project owners.
  • Knowledge using computer technology (i.e., Microsoft Office, AutoCAD).
  • Flexible and well organized, detail oriented and multi-tasked.
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral.
  • Excellent ability to clearly explain advanced technical issues in manner that is easily understood.
  • Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high quality work.
