Job Description:
- Assess and evaluate the nursing and medical needs of institutionalized patients.
- Initiate and direct the implementation of nursing care plans.
- Observe, evaluate, and record patient behavior, condition, and response to medications, treatments, and therapeutic activities.
- Coordinate clinical and medical appointments.
- Provide professional nursing care, including administering medications and treatments as ordered by a physician.
- Assist with physical examinations and take and record vital signs.
- Assist in feeding and grooming patients when needed.
- Responsible for patient and family teaching and respond to emergencies.
- Direct the delivery of and evaluate psychiatric and nursing care delivered by lower-level professional and nonprofessional staff on assigned shifts.
- Monitor medication administration, documentation, patient care, and operation of medical equipment.
- Assist in orienting and training new nursing service employees.
- Prepare and review records and reports such as incidents, restraints, seclusions, nursing care plans, shift reports, transfers, admissions, discharges, and more.
- Update nursing care plans and transcribe or verify doctors' orders.
- Write and review treatment plans and nursing summaries.
- Serve as an interdisciplinary treatment team member.
- Attend seminars, meetings, and conferences. Participate in in-service training sessions and programs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of professional nursing procedures, developmentally disabled nursing, employee training, state and federal regulations related to nursing, public relations, and counseling.
- Operate medical equipment effectively.
- Demonstrate physical fitness and the ability to deal with some abstract but mostly concrete variables.
