What are Trust Fund Positions?

Trust Fund positions are unique to the Smithsonian. They are paid for from a variety of sources, including the Smithsonian endowment, revenue from our business activities, donations, grants and contracts. Trust employees are not part of the civil service, nor does trust fund employment lead to Federal status. The salary ranges for trust positions are generally the same as for federal positions and in many cases trust and federal employees work side by side. OVERVIEW

This position is located in the Office of Digital Transformation (ODT), Office of the Under Secretary
of Administration (OUSA) Smithsonian Institution (SI).

The Smithsonian Institution is a diverse museum and research complex dedicated to the increase and diffusion of knowledge. The Office of Digital Transformation (ODT) is responsible for making SI a digitally empowered Institution that builds purposeful connections between the knowledge we share and the people we serve, inviting every household, classroom, and community around the globe on a lasting journey to explore, learn, and find meaning together. An integral part of this digital transformation is the implementation of a pan institutional Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solution.

The Smithsonian Institution's Office of Digital Transformation (ODT) is looking for a CRM Program Architect. This role plays a key part of the Smithsonian's CRM strategy and is responsible for designing, developing, and oversight of the initial implementation and continuous enhancements to Salesforce solutions across SI. This role ensures that Salesforce ecosystem solutions align with Institutional and Unit-level business objectives and integrates effectively with other systems. It involves managing technical teams, working with stakeholders, and providing strategic guidance to optimize the use of Salesforce and maximize ROI for the institution.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads and participates in the design and implementation of Salesforce solutions across SI, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Leads and participates in the integration of Salesforce with other key SI systems (e.g., ERP, third-party applications), ensuring data consistency and integrity.
  • Provides architecture design guidance and expertise across core and non-core Salesforce products.
  • Provides guidance on integration solutions, including the use of middleware tools (e.g. AWS Glue, Airflow, Mulesoft) and APIs.
  • Develops and maintains strategic relationships with key stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation and long-term sustainability of Salesforce solutions.
  • Facilitates complex solutioning efforts with customers and ensure alignment with Salesforce standards.
  • Collaborates with the leadership team to confirm CRM capabilities and roadmap and ensure alignment with SI's overall strategic goals.
  • Supervises, develops, and mentors CRM Administrators and CRM Developers in Salesforce architecture and application development Institution-wide.
  • Provides technical leadership in Salesforce development, including code reviews, testing, and solution optimization.
  • Ensures Salesforce solutions are scalable, reliable, and optimized for SI's needs.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Experience required for this position is as follows:
  • Mastery knowledge of and skill in architecture design across core and non-core Salesforce products.
  • Mastery knowledge of and skill to manage large-scale Salesforce programs, preferably in the nonprofit or federal sector.
  • Mastery knowledge of and skill in developing solutions with key Salesforce products, including Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Experience Cloud, and Marketing Cloud.
  • Knowledge of and skill to identify and analyze problems effectively, distinguish between relevant and irrelevant information, and provide logical, data-driven solutions to both individual and organizational issues.
  • Knowledge of and skill to guide technical teams that ensure quality delivery of CRM, Salesforce capabilities and solutions to roadmap and align with SI's overall strategic goals.
  • Knowledge of and skill to integrate Salesforce with external systems and platforms using middleware tools (e.g. AWS Glue, Airflow, Mulesoft) and APIs.
  • Knowledge of risk management practices, to ensure CRM system implementations and mitigate potential risks associated with data security, privacy, and system downtime.
  • Ability to lead the design and implementation of Salesforce solutions across SI, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Ability to empathize with business pain points and incorporate user-centered strategies in developing solutions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external partners to ensure successful program delivery.
  • Ability to give presentations and present plans orally to internal and external groups at professional and managerial levels.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with blended audiences to articulate technical concepts and provide logical solutions.
  • Required Certifications: Platform Developer I, plus two or more of the following: Platform App Builder, Data Architect, Integration Architect, Identity and Access Management Architect
  • Preferred Certifications - Salesforce System Architect, Application Architect.
  • Preferred: Experience working with Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud.
  • Preferred: Experience working in Nonprofit and/or Federal environments.
