We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as the Director of Revenue to oversee key financial processes related to the commercialization of our first product. The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in revenue recognition, particularly within a biotechnology environment, and will be responsible for the end-to-end oversight of the gross-to-net process, order-to-cash operations, and potentially inventory and cost accounting. Initially this will be an individual contributor role, with the subsequent opportunity to build a team. The Director of Revenue will oversee third-party service providers, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Commercial, and Supply Chain. This position is located at our corporate headquarters in South San Francisco, CA, a hybrid work environment.

Key Accountabilities/Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Gross-to-Net: design, manage and oversee the gross-to-net process for the company's commercial product(s), managing our third-party service provider to ensure all gross-to-net adjustments, including rebates, chargebacks, and pricing adjustments are accurately reflected in financial results.
  • Order-to-Cash: Design and oversee the end-to-end order-to-cash process, ensuring that the outsourced provider is effectively managing order processing, collections, and accounts receivable functions, and partnering with supply chain in oversight of product distribution and inventory accuracy. Ensure that all operations run smoothly and in compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Inventory and Cost Accounting: Collaborate with the supply chain, manufacturing operations and finance teams to design and operationalize processes to maintain accurate inventory tracking and cost accounting records related to both outsourced and in-house manufacturing operations.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of the company's ERP system, ensuring that areas related to revenue and scalability of financial operations.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to establish and maintain accounting policies that ensure compliance with relevant revenue recognition standards and other accounting regulations.
  • Assist in designing, implementing, and performing SOX controls for key financial processes. Collaborate with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate delivery of required documentation and support during audits.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team, promoting accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage workload distribution, prioritize tasks, and ensure deadlines are met effectively.
  • Promote a strong control environment and ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvements in the company's financial processes, with a focus on automation, scalability, and operational efficiency as the business grows.

Qualifications/Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline
  • CPA required
  • 12+ years of related experience, with at least 5+ years in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical environment
  • In-depth knowledge of ASC 606 and revenue recognition practices
  • Strong experience in gross-to-net accounting, including experience with rebates, chargebacks, and other pricing mechanisms in the life sciences industry
  • Experience managing the order-to-cash cycle, including oversight of external partners
  • Familiarity with inventory and cost accounting preferred
  • Experience with SAP preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to research and interpret accounting guidance effectively
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with cross-functional teams, external auditors, and senior management
  • Proven leadership ability, with experience managing and developing people
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality of work
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines


Salary Range: $192,000.00 to $242,667.00 . Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
