Are you an Internist in search of a fulfilling faculty position? Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine are accepting applications for an Internal Medicine Generalist. We are seeking a Physician to join the University Internal Medicine Country Club ambulatory practice in Winston Salem, North Carolina. This role involves academic practice with a faculty appointment to the Department of Internal Medicine, Section of General Internal Medicine.

Job Summary:

Physicians work to care for patients in a variety of ways, from treating chronic illnesses to advising about preventative healthcare. While physician specialties might vary, the commonality across specialties is that physicians primarily work to diagnose and treat injuries and illnesses. They often do this by performing physical exams, taking medical histories, performing and interpreting diagnostic tests, and recommending a plan of treatment.

Position Overview:
  • Location: Conveniently located in Winston Salem, North Carolina, the practice site is only 10 minutes away from the main medical center campus, ensuring easy access for patients, providers, and staff.
  • History: Established in 1992, this practice boasts a storied history and remarkable faculty retention, with numerous providers having served dedicatedly for 20 to 30 years.
  • Clinical Focus: This is a full-time clinical position with a commitment to 8 clinical and 2 nonclinical sessions per week. Flexible options available for part-time positions or mixed academic roles.
  • Teaching Opportunities: While primarily a clinical position, there are diverse professional opportunities, including teaching, clinical research, and administrative roles.
  • Collaboration: Join a cohesive team of 14 physicians and 2 Physician Assistants, fostering seamless referrals and collaborative efforts. It also includes a close relationship with clinical pharmacy practice.
  • Call Expectations: Limited weeks of outpatient call shared within the entire section of General Internal Medicine, supported by a triage nurse answering service.

Job Requirements:
  • MD/DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Successful completion of an accredited residency program in Internal Medicine or said specialty.
  • Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Internal Medicine or said specialty.
  • Valid North Carolina Medical License or the ability to obtain one prior to the start date.
  • Valid DEA license or the ability to obtain one prior to employment.


Essential Functions:
  • Work with the primary healthcare team to provide patients with primary medical care services within the standard of care for Internal Medicine patients.
  • Order laboratory and radiology tests and refer patients to specialists when appropriate and called for.
  • Analyze reports, test results, medical records and examinations to diagnose condition of patients and propose treatment options.
  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens to treat identified and documented medical conditions.
  • Discuss potential side effects of medication/treatment with patients and ensure that all allergy information is up-to-date before prescribing medication/treatment.
  • Provide advice to patients for lifestyle and diet changes that may improve their health or help to treat the health issue they are experiencing.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures and objectives, ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
  • Record complete, timely and legible medical records.


Skills/Qualifications:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense. Well organized.
  • Experience providing primary care and diagnostic services in a clinical setting.
  • Experience prescribing appropriate medications, treatments and health regimens to treat patient health issues.
  • Experience collaborating with specialists to explore patient health conditions and diagnose health issues.
  • Experience working in a team of healthcare professionals and collaborating with them to ensure positive, effective patient experiences with our organization.
