Term Lecturer, Sociology

Job Summary:
The Sociology Department at Barnard College seeks a full-time Term Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses. This is a two-year position beginning on July 1, 2025, with teaching responsibilities during the standard academic year from September through May.

Job Description:

Candidates are expected to teach a mix of lecture and seminar courses in the fields of gender and sexuality, including a specialized seminar for first year students. Course load is three courses per semester. Successful applicants will have a strong record of undergraduate teaching and a demonstrated commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds.

Exact instructional assignments and other academic responsibilities are determined by the Chair.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

Required Qualifications

PhD in Sociology, with all requirements for the degree completed by the beginning of the appointment. Preference is for applicants whose research and teaching interests intersect with such areas as race, law and society, criminology, science and technology, and/or policy.

Salary: $85,500

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
