As the Senior Technical Program Manager on the Checkout team you will shape the strategy and direction of the next generation of the Checkout engineering platform. You will define the strategic direction and adoption process for our platform components throughout the company. These components will include front end widgets, REST and Java APIs that will power fast and efficient Checkout across all manner of Amazon devices and channels. Your work will enable our team and Amazon as a whole to iterate faster on purchase experiences - delighting customers with smoother and lower latency flows and encouraging them to complete their purchases with Amazon.

The ideal candidate is leader in technology and distributed computing, customer obsessed, able to gather requirements and connect with existing technologies and map out gaps, drives for optimal balance of flexibility, ease of use and safety of toolsets, able to scale to large number of customers with often competing/conflicting requirements, is able to identify unspoken needs of customers, and thrives in a fast-paced innovative environment.

Key job responsibilities

You will drive Checkout's strategy to build and scale our modernized Checkout experiences to new use cases, surfaces, and customers across the world.

You will drive programs such as the EU Accessibility Mandate and Region Flexibility. You will have the opportunity to work closely and collaborate with software development managers, engineers, product managers, UX designers and business intelligence engineers to innovate, measure, analyze and refine the experiences we deliver to millions of customers across the planet on a daily basis. You will work closely within close-knit Checkout 2-pizza teams, but also partner teams, to identify and prioritize needs, influence up and across the organization, and synthesize a variety of technologies and capabilities to deliver the most trustworthy and delightful shopping experiences customers love.

Successful candidates will have experience working in a high pace environment, have strong bias for action, and be comfortable in working in an ambiguous environment. To be successful, you'll need customer obsession, the ability to think big, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to deliver results via a strong bias for action

A day in the life

You will have the opportunity to further developer communication skills - both written and verbal - to influence and work with senior management. You will work cross-functionally with UX, Product and engineering teams to drive experiences across all devices (desktop, mobile app, etc.) and in all geographies. As a member of one of Amazon's most critical customer-facing teams, you will have the opportunity to build relationships and collaborate with the hundreds of partner teams that innovate across Checkout in a given year, gaining rare insight to Amazon-wide strategic initiatives and priorities.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of technical product or program management experience

- 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience

- 3+ years of software development experience

- 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience

- Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience

- Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules

- Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
