Description:

The Director of Community Hospital Laboratory at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital is responsible for the ongoing operations of all respective hospital lab testing and designated phlebotomy and specimen collections. This includes the allocation of financial and human resources and the implementation and maintenance of the section's quality improvement program in alignment with the regional quality program.

The Director promotes MAGIS behavior within the section and supports various health system-sponsored programs. They work closely with the laboratory medical director and the regional administrative director in the implementation of new policies, procedures, and equipment that support hospital and ambulatory operations. They work in concert with Hospital leadership to achieve local goals/objectives and patient satisfaction metrics.

Position responsibilities:
  • Manages staffing resources, across all shifts, in order to meet the needs of laboratory stakeholders. A.) Hires qualified employees to fill open positions and terminates colleagues following appropriate procedures. B.) Ensures that employees are properly trained and that the training / lab competencies are appropriately documented. C.) Applies LUHS human resource policies consistently and fairly. D.) Evaluates and documents employee performance according to Loyola Medicine policies and identifies, documents, and resolves human resource issues within the section. E.) Provides regular feedback on employee performance and prepares, implements and monitors individual work improvement plans in order to improve employee performance. F.) Develops individuals for laboratory leadership positions and develops succession plans for colleagues. G.) Facilitates daily THLS huddles, and regularly scheduled staff meetings (across all shifts) to promote frequent and transparent communication of Lab, Hospital, and regional initiatives.
  • Ensuring compliance with laboratory regulations and accreditation standards. A.) Maintains an awareness of current regulations and standards which effect operations for all areas within the laboratory scope of responsibilities. B.) Identifies areas of risk and implements activities to reduce the risk to the health system. C.) Ensures that variances are documented, investigated and resolved. D.) Collaborates with the Medical Director, regional lab leadership and laboratory staff to develop, implement, monitor, and sustain quality improvement projects. E.) Maintains at least quarterly quality assurance meetings and reports which align with regional objectives and are reported up through Hospital leadership. F.) Responsible for ensuring accreditation and regulatory compliance is achieved including CAP, The Joint Commission, and related external accreditations including providing variance reports as required.
  • Ensures instruments and supply inventory are appropriate for volume and complexity of the operation to maintain efficient patient care operations A.)
  • Prepares budgets and meets monthly financial thresholds. Investigates budget variances in a timely manner. B.) Recommends capital equipment purchases, in collaboration with the medical director and regional administrative director, to maintain and enhance lab testing and submits capital submissions as required.
  • Providing laboratory services that meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders. A.) Acts as the primary contact person for nursing and medical personnel. B.) Serves as a resource for employee decision making. C.) Develops and implements strategies to improve stakeholder satisfaction. D.) Participates in intradepartmental meetings and task forces. E.) May be responsible to serve as Administrator On Call (AOC) and participate in local/regional incident command teams.
  • In collaboration with clinical leadership and laboratory leadership (including medical director) ensures all laboratory policies and procedures are up-to-date and followed by colleagues. Implements new policies, procedures and equipment which support the vision of the laboratory, hospital, and region.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Science; Master's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of previous job-related experience, 6-10 years preferred.
  • Must be qualified under CLIA for high complexity testing.
  • 1-2 years of supervisory or managerial experience preferred.
  • Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) preferred or equivalent.


Pay Range: $111,321- $183,643

Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.

Annual Bonus: Eligible for incentive compensation annual target as outlined in Plan Document.
