The Director, Project Engineering is responsible for leading and executing engineering projects at Phlow's advanced pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing plant. This hybrid role requires a combination of project management expertise, hands-on engineering experience, and leadership in overseeing project execution. The individual in this role manages capital and process improvement projects, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and optimizes operations to enhance efficiency and scalability.

This role is critical in driving engineering excellence and operational efficiency within the organization. The individual in this position is expected to work collaboratively across departments to ensure project success and continuous improvement in manufacturing operations.

Requirements

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Drive long-term engineering and capital project strategies to support business objectives and operational growth.
  • Project Management: Lead and coordinate capital projects, process improvements, and facility expansions from concept to completion, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, and timeline.
  • Engineering Execution: Provide hands-on technical expertise in equipment selection, process optimization, and facility design to support API manufacturing.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with operations, quality, regulatory, and supply chain teams to align project goals with business objectives.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all engineering projects comply with cGMP, FDA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Vendor & Contractor Management: Oversee third-party contractors, equipment suppliers, and engineering firms to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
  • Budget & Cost Control: Develop project budgets, track expenditures, and ensure cost-effective execution without compromising quality or compliance.
  • Process Optimization: Analyze current manufacturing processes and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project teams.

Experience & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or related field).
  • 10+ years of experience in project management, engineering, or operations within pharmaceutical, chemical, or API manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of cGMP, FDA regulations, and pharmaceutical manufacturing best practices.
  • Experience managing capital projects and process improvements in a highly regulated environment.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies, including Agile, PMP, or Six Sigma certifications (preferred).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Proficiency in project management software (MS Project, etc.) and engineering tools (AutoCAD, process simulation software, etc.).

Physical Requirements
  • Constantly required to see to utilize computer screens and monitors to perform job duties including reading & writing, as well as when presenting information and communicating with others.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear to communicate with employees, candidates, vendors, and others, including presenting information in front of groups.
  • Frequently required to reach with arms and hands performing repetitive motions and using finger dexterity to work primarily at a computer keyboard and with a mouse.
