We are looking for a talented Applied Scientist to join our Security Abuse Prevention team. This role offers a unique opportunity to build first-of-their-kind ML models that protect Amazon's logistics network by detecting suspicious patterns across warehouse operations, transportation systems, and customer service interactions. You'll collaborate closely with security teams and operations stakeholders to translate complex abuse scenarios into scalable detection systems.
Key job responsibilities
* Design and develop novel machine learning models to detect abuse patterns across logistics systems, focusing on anomaly detection and adaptive learning approaches
* Analyze large-scale logistics data to identify emerging abuse vectors and quantify their business impact
* Partner with security teams to translate abuse scenarios into model features and detection rules
* Work closely with engineering teams to implement real-time detection systems
* Collaborate with operations teams to validate findings and refine models based on ground truth
* Research and implement innovative approaches for connecting signals across disparate systems
* Establish scalable processes for model development, validation and deployment
* Provide clear insights to leadership on abuse trends and model performance

You will partner with teams across Amazon's security and operations organizations and work with unique datasets spanning Amazon's global operations. You will pioneer new approaches to security abuse prevention shape and drive measurable business impact through novel ML applications.
Security Abuse Prevention team provides Stores businesses with identity and access management solutions and drive resilience against security abuse. We do this through scalable mechanisms, leveraging automation and AI, while ensuring protection of our customer data and privacy. The team focuses on data collection, correlation, and anomaly identification across Amazon's global logistics network.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of building models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing
- Experience in solving business problems through machine learning, data mining and statistical algorithms
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment
- Experience in investigating, designing, prototyping, and delivering new and innovative system solutions
- Experience with abuse/fraud detection systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work in ambiguous problem spaces
- Track record of end-to-end ML project ownership, Strong communication skills and ability to influence cross-functional partners

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
