Responsibilities
Athletic Director
Manage Season Logistics for SJS Athletic Offerings
- Ensure compliance with CYO deadlines for each sport, including team registration, team drops, and roster submittal.
- Create and publicize registration modules.
- Process registrations and create teams that are not subject to an independent tryout.
- Hire independent judges to oversee tryouts and team selection as needed in grades 5-8.
- Recruit coaches and other volunteer positions.
- Manage the creation of practice schedules.
- Coordinate facility rentals for outdoor sports.
- Submit all sports billing to the school business office.
- Use strategies to mitigate conflict via proactive communication, active listening, and transparent processes and procedures.
- When inappropriate conduct issues occur in the athlete, parent, or coach community, engage in problem-solving quickly and directly. If disciplinary action is necessary, consult with the Director of the Primary or Middle School and then the Head of School before implementation.
- Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising all athletics staff, including Gym Monitors, Uniform/Equipment Managers, and Uniform Collectors.
- Act as the contact for all athletics-related parent communication throughout the year.
- Ensure all volunteers are current on requirements for the Archdiocese of Seattle, which may include but are not limited to background checks and Safe Environment classes to be eligible to work with youth in accordance with Archdiocesan policies.
- Ensure all coaches and families comply with CYO "Play Like a Champion Today" requirements.
- Purchase equipment and uniforms in consultation with the Uniform/Equipment Manager.
- Coordinate as needed with parish leadership regarding adult softball and volleyball.
- Represent SJS at the CYO athletics office via attendance at the Athletic Director meetings and ongoing correspondence.
- Supervise expenses for all programs in cooperation with the business office.
- Ensure that the gym has been reserved for CYO practices and games. Work with school and parish staff to identify dates that the gym is in use for community events.
- Communicate any changes in use to all parties affected.
- Hire, train, and schedule gym supervisors to ensure the Wyckoff Gym is appropriately staffed during all CYO practices and games.
- Partner with the facilities department to ensure gym maintenance is timely and allows for safe use.
- Create physical education lesson plans based on Washington State standards.
- Maintain a safe classroom environment.
- Encourage students to challenge themselves and develop a life-long love of movement.
- Facilitate the development of sportsmanship, problem-solving, and care for others.
- Participate in all staff, building, and grade-level meetings.
- Perform various faculty supervisory duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will:

- Be able to articulate a vision of SJS Athletics that will enrich the educational experience of the student body.
- Hold a valid teaching certificate or is in the process of securing one.
- Have management experience.
- Be able to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Standing for long periods.
- Regularly lifting 20-30 lbs.
- Ability to lift objects up and overhead.
- Regularly walking up and down stairs.
