Job Summary

The Director of Procurement will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight and management for a four-person procurement team and will lead the development of sourcing strategies and business processes that enhance vendor performance and cost effectiveness for the organization. This role will bring insight and leadership to improve speed to contract execution and implement best practices in procurement and supplier management to support commercial and operational objectives. This role will utilize technology and talent capabilities to drive continual improvement in procurement processes and controls.

This role requires extensive experience in contract negotiations with clients and vendors, ensuring agreements align with the company's strategic and compliance standards. This role will maintain strong internal and external relationships and negotiate complex agreements and develop a formal centralized, vendor management programs, short and long-term savings plans, and develop category management that will add value and efficiency.

Job Responsibilities

Strategic Procurement & Cost Management
  • Develop and implement a best-in-class procurement strategy to align with business goals.
  • Lead contract negotiations, vendor selection, and cost-saving initiatives to optimize procurement spend.
  • Oversee the sourcing of raw materials, equipment, IT, services, logistics, and capital expenditures.

Supplier Relationship & Risk Management
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier partnerships to ensure quality, cost efficiency, and innovation.
  • Implement a supplier performance management framework, including KPIs, audits, and compliance checks.
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks in collaboration with the supply chain team

Technology & Process Optimization
  • Utilize ERP systems (NetSuite, etc.), other procurement tools, and automation to improve efficiency.
  • Implement data-driven decision-making and advanced analytics for procurement insights and improvements.
  • Standardize operating procedures for procurement team.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance supply chain agility and resilience.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing procurement team.
  • Work cross-functionally with key internal stakeholders: finance, lab operations, legal, and commercial teams to align strategies.
  • Communicate procurement goals and impact to executive leadership and key stakeholders.

People Manager
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, ensuring strong internal controls and operational excellence.
  • Provide mentorship, training, and career development opportunities.
  • Set clear objectives, monitor team performance, and drive continuous improvement.

Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Supply Chain Management or related field.
  • Master's degree, MBA or industry certifications (CPSM, CIPS, CPP, CSCP) preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive Procurement, Supply Chain, or Strategic Sourcing experience required.
  • Preferred experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industries
  • Proven track record of cost savings, supplier negotiations, and operational efficiency improvements in fast paced and unstructured business environments.
  • Expertise in contract management, vendor relationship management, and risk mitigation.
  • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite) and implementing digital procurement platforms (Ariba, Coupa, Zip, etc.).
  • Exceptional leadership, stakeholder management, and strategic planning skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Industry certifications (CPSM, CIPS, CPP, CSCP) preferred

  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.

Work Environment
  • This role primarily operates in a professional office environment, with regular use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.
  • The position requires extended periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, and occasional walking, standing, and light lifting.


Pay Transparency, Budgeted Range

$150,000-$190,000 USD
