Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: $90K Starting Base Salary (competitive, experience-based)

Overview

VALIANT Construction LLC is seeking an experienced Safety Director to lead and manage safety operations across our U.S. Federal Government construction projects ranging from $10M to $50M. This role is travel-intensive (approximately 80%), requiring frequent site visits to ensure all projects meet or exceed strict federal and company safety standards. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with deep knowledge of OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and federal contract safety protocols. They will be responsible for developing safety programs, conducting inspections and audits, facilitating training, and partnering with field and executive teams to foster a strong safety culture across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Program Development & Execution
  • Design, implement, and manage VALIANT's corporate safety program in alignment with federal regulations and project-specific requirements.
  • Lead development of Site-Specific Safety and Health Plans (SSHPs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety strategies across all job sites, recommending improvements as needed.

Compliance & Site Oversight
  • Conduct frequent field visits (80% travel) to ensure compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and site-specific safety plans.
  • Perform site audits, safety inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Coordinate with government safety officials, including USACE and NAVFAC safety representatives, to maintain ongoing compliance.

Training & Leadership
  • Facilitate safety orientation and ongoing training programs for employees, subcontractors, and field leadership.
  • Promote a culture of accountability and awareness, leading regular toolbox talks, safety stand-downs, and incident reviews.
  • Mentor project teams and field personnel to maintain best-in-class safety practices.
  • Ensure all employees are up-to-date with safety certifications

Incident Response & Reporting
  • Lead investigations for all jobsite incidents, near misses, and safety violations, compiling root cause analyses and corrective action plans.
  • Maintain safety documentation, including logs, reports, and compliance records required for federal oversight and internal tracking.
  • Report on safety KPIs and trends to company leadership, identifying proactive measures to reduce risk

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of field safety experience in federal or commercial construction; experience with EM 385-1-1 required.
  • CSP, CHST, or other relevant certifications preferred.
