General Summary:
The System Director, Health Information Management shall be responsible for the overall direction of all HIM, Coding, and Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) activities across the Baptist Health system. The Director is responsible for the strategic initiatives, to plan, program development, labor management and overall administration of all HIM, Coding, and CDI operations. The Director will develop and execute enterprise-wide standardization and efficiency visions and strategies that support the overall performance, quality improvement, continuing education, documentation integrity, overall program improvement, and financial health. Additionally, the Director is responsible for the integrity of the medical records and compliance with all state and federal laws and regulatory bodies.

The Director will be responsible to direct and supervise the provision of HIM operations for all service lines. Directs and supervises the various HIM functions, including but not limited to Coding, Release of Information, optimization of Clinical Documentation Improvement, DRG assurance and denials management. This individual shall work collaboratively with the facility leaders of HIM, Medical Staff and Administration to achieve system/facility targets for HIM key performance indicators while being acutely aware of facilitating optimal patient outcomes and quality of care; as well as to, coordinate strategic initiatives for HIM including but not limited to CDI, ROI, coordination with the Quality Department for appropriate participation in documentation opportunities, DNFB, DNFC, quality assurance for coding & CDI, creating and maintaining Standard Operating Work for all roles in HIM for the system, performance and compliance with Joint Commission requirements for HIM. This position works collaboratively with hospital administration, medical staff leadership, department managers, community providers for both Pre-Acute and Post-Acute services, ER physicians, Hospitalist, Residency programs, and all applicable providers, to spearhead initiatives, develop training programs, establish tracking indicators, and identify opportunities to improve outcomes related to Health Information Management for Baptist Health.Description

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration or Clinical Administration required, Master's degree in Business Administration preferred. Minimum 10-12 years of Health Information Management and Coding management experience with a complex integrated health system required. At least 5 years of leadership experience required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Health Information Management experience including Clinical Documentation Improvement and Revenue Cycle focus. Ten years of increasing managerial experience at a large health care facility and management of multi-disciplinary teams.
Thorough knowledge of Health Information Management and Clinical Documentation Improvement operations and applicable metrics and financials including improvements and impact on operating margins.
Revenue cycle and business mind with redesign and performance excellence experience.
Compliance expertise in applicable aspects of HIM and CDI.
Demonstrated experience in HIM consolidation in a multi-hospital system.
Experience with The Joint Commission survey process.
Experience with HIPAA and related federal and state privacy laws.
Knowledge of contemporary models for managing HIM and Coding services in a health system.
Knowledge of, and skill in, managing a complex department with roles that support the operations of an acute care facility.
Extensive knowledge of successful HIM & Coding practices.
Knowledge of CMS (Medicare and Medicaid) regulations, state laws, federal regulations, as well as non-regulatory standards such as Joint Commission standards related to HIM & coding.
Knowledge and experience in building and supporting teams/collaborative workgroups.
Knowledge of the principles of information management to effectively analyze data and make decisions.
