Primary Purpose of this Job

The primary purpose of this job is to design fixtures, quote prices, maintain, manage consumables, operate and program computer numeric controlled production machine tools in the machining of 3D printed metal parts or stock to customer requirements and specifications using a variety of cutting tools.

Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned)
  • Work independently without assistance.
  • Follows established quality and safety standards.
  • Create part work instructions and routers for parts you will make to align to our AS9100 quality system
  • Assists in reviewing applications aspects of RFQs and turnkey projects and feasibility
  • Be a liaison to our customer to talk about their machining needs and conduct design reviews with them and our business development team.
  • Engineering and programing of multi-axis applications utilizing CAM-systems
  • Read and interpret dimensional drawings, tool setup sheets and manufacturing instructions in performing required machining operations.
  • Complete full machine setups without any supervision and/or assistance necessary.
  • Design fixturing and either build or procure
  • Work with additive engineering department on developmental projects
  • Operates and programs various types of computer numeric controlled production machines in the machining of 3D printed metal parts made from various types of metal such as stainless steel, aluminum, chrome-nickel, Inconel, titanium, etc.; Machine additive metal parts to close tolerance, e.g. +/- .001; operate multiple machines at the same time.
  • Load and unload pieces manually or with hoist; Apply coolant lubricant and change worn or damaged tools as required.
  • Do general maintenance on the machining center. Work with vendors to do higher end maintenance when required.
  • Operate EDM machines to cut parts off build plates
  • Use precision or standard measuring devices such as inside and outside micrometers, dial indicators, Vernier scales, fixed frame gauges or special gauges, profilometers, etc. to check machined dimensions and surface finishes conforming to customer prints and/or specifications.
  • Assist in other post processing operations as required to meet production needs - deburring, support removal, blasting, cleaning, ultrasonic tank.
  • Exercise care in handling of material before and after the machining operation
  • Enthusiastic to perform other duties as assigned.
  • Authority to perform all tasks/activities responsible for


Minimum Job Requirements: (Equivalent combinations of education, licenses, certifications and/or experience may be considered)

Education Required:
  • 2-year technical machining degree
  • BS Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering

Experience Required:
  • 10+ years of previous machining experience


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities typically required to perform the essential functions of this job

Knowledge of:
  • Basic machining principles
  • Knowledge in the field of 5-axis machining
  • Control knowledge of CNC control
  • GD&T
  • Blueprint reading
  • Program writing and reading.

Skilled in:
  • Prototyping one off parts
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze and resolve difficult problems effectively and implement long-term solutions.
  • Excellent organizational skills

Ability to:
  • Attain US Gov't DoE and DoD classified clearance - ATI sponsored. Requires being a US citizen.
  • Use hand tools, measuring instruments, and gauges to ensure proper setups and machining operations.
  • Work in an environment that changes daily
