Job Description

We currently have an opening for aCivil Infrastructure Group Managerin ourKitcheneroffice. The successful candidate will manage the Group within the wider Kitchener Infrastructure Division within the Ontario Operation. This position is important to our strategic and business goals, so you will have the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our operation. In this role, you will lead, inspire, and collaborate with talented people.

Our ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience, is an excellent communicator, and dynamic leader. You will work on a variety of tasks and develop your skills in many areas providing you with the opportunities for advancement and career growth.This individual will seek to improve AE Ontarios position as a growing service provider, in the Civil and Municipal Infrastructure market in Ontario, by working with the other groups, divisions, and offices across the operation and beyond.

You will have the proven ability to build and manage a competent team; mentor Project Managers and Employees; achieve project and organizational targets; respond to the challenges and risks of the market; optimize financial, commercial and project delivery performance; develop the groups business plan, programs and organization objectives to enhance margins, resource coordination and utilization.The successful candidate will promote AEs vision and culture, meeting the strategic goals and objectives established in collaboration with the Division Manager and other members of the Operations Senior Management Team.

Job Requirements

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Ensuring financial success of the Group within the Ontario operation through proactive project management, pre-positioning efforts, quality management, strategic partnering, hands-on delivery, and coaching of Project Managers and team
  • Managing, guiding, mentoring, and coordinating staff
  • Leading the delivery of civil and municipal infrastructure projects
  • Managing administration, project delivery, business development, marketing initiatives, andstrategic planning duties for the Group within the Division and wider Ontario operation
  • Ensuring project needs are met in an effective and timely matter
  • Participating as a member of the Division leadership team and supporting the Ontario operationin contributing to discussions to the infrastructure market across the Company
  • Participating as a technical and group leader in the field of civil and municipal Infrastructure inthe Division and across the operation
  • Monitoring and identifying emerging trends and technologies in the Infrastructure field
  • Being responsible for day-to-day management of resources and projects within the Group andsupporting other Project Managers as needed
  • Liaising with Group Managers and Project Managers in our other offices and Operations acrossthe Company
  • Attending and contributing to technical symposia, conferences, and seminars
  • Assigning resources to projects and tasks to Engineers and Technologists, and supervisingdelegated tasks for content, quality and completion in assigned hours
  • Managing the team in the planning, analysis, assessment, engineering and design activities ofinfrastructure projects in collaboration with other Groups
  • Leading the Group and supporting the Company pursuit process including proposal delivery,review evaluation, proposal preparation efforts, technical content and fee development, as well as obtaining pursuit approvals
  • Ensuring that all technical, project management, safety and administrative aspects of our services are being performed in a manner consistent with the Companys goals, standards, and performance objectives
  • Ensuring quality and accuracy of designs, reports, and studies
  • Developing staffing requirements along with Project Managers, the Division Manager, the VPand General Manager, and the Human Resources Generalist
  • Assisting with recruitment, career planning, and salary reviews for staff within the group
  • Managing Client, Contractor, and other consultant/partner relationships
  • Assisting in the development of engineering concepts, concept reports, and constructionbudgets
  • Preparing technical reports, proposals, design briefs, and outline design drawings andspecifications
  • Attending client meetings and coordinating meetings with design teams
  • Complying and working within a COR certified environment and performing all duties in accordance with those specified under the Occupational Health & Safety Act and applicable legislation
  • Liaising with the Divisions Construction Services Group and coordinating the completion ofconstructability reviews and delivery of tender ready construction contracts
  • Liaising with the Divisions Construction Services Group to provide necessary project andtechnical support during construction

In addition to the attributes and desired experience previously noted, candidates should have the following qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering (Civil preferred) from an accredited university or equivalent
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or equivalent
  • 10+ years of planning and design experience in Ontario
  • 4+ years management, project management, group management, coaching and mentoringexperience in the infrastructure sector
  • Demonstrated motivating leadership, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills, including strongnegotiation, mediation, and persuasion skills
  • Proven experience in business development and growth
  • Proven ability to successfully deliver complex multi-discipline infrastructure assignments usingrecognized project management and quality management systems
  • Proven integrity to deal with sensitive, privileged and confidential employee or client matters
  • Proven ability to liaise and manage clients, contractors, and other consultants relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to be creative, adaptable, results oriented, and ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent prioritization, problem-solving, analytical, decision-making, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in use of MS Office Suite of products including collaborative software such as OneNote and SharePoint
  • Demonstrated membership and involvement in industry technical and/or professionalorganizations (i.e. director, board member, volunteer etc.)
  • Valid drivers license
  • Ability to travel within Ontario and Canada
