This position serves as Systems Administrator I for the Network Operations Center (NOC)of the Infrastructure, Operations, and Network (ION) bureau. The bureau is part of the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) for the Department of Health (DOH).

Why does the job exist?

The IT Systems Administrator I is responsible for monitoring the network to ensure optimal performance, managing network users and permissions, and creating technical support documentation for systems and applications. This role supports network connectivity for all computer workstations, servers, and remote locations across the state. Additionally, the IT Systems Administrator I will help track network equipment inventory and assist senior staff with major network projects.

How does it get done?

You will assist advanced-level network administrators in managing routers, switches, and Wireless Access Points (WAPs) at various sites and facilities. Additionally, you will monitor the network to ensure optimal performance and escalate issues to advanced-level administrators as needed. Your responsibilities will include administering and maintaining networking devices and security appliances, ensuring network connectivity to computer workstations, and responding to network trouble tickets from DOH personnel. You will also coordinate with external network service providers to resolve issues and assist in managing network user permissions and the Windows Active Directory environment.

Who are the customers?

This position reports to the IT Network Manager of the NOC and supports the entire DOH employees and contracted staff.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has:

Associate's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in end user support, systems administration, network administration or any related field.
-Proficiency in Routing, Switching, Subnetting, and VLANs.
-Experience with Wi-Fi network configuration and management.
-Familiarity with PC, server, mobile, and IoT device hardware configuration.
-Hands-on experience in Active Directory management, including user creation and identity management.
-Experience using a Trouble Ticket System.

Minimum Qualification

Associate degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in end user support, systems administration, network administration, or any related field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
