Sr. Electrical Engineer
Reporting to the VP of Electrical Engineering, the Sr. Electrical Engineer will design and develop equipment and hardware for harsh environments for APS customers, as well as design and manufacture tests systems for evaluating APS hardware and products. Additional duties include working with designers and detailers to create layouts, assembly drawings of new equipment, performing all calculations, estimations, and laboratory tests required to verify the soundness and suitability of the design, and initiate and monitor the procurement of all parts required to build and assist in the construction of prototypes.
In this role, primary engineering discipline requirements include experience in the development of electronics design for use in harsh environments (high temperature, high shock/vibration), a background in instrumentation design including motor control, electromechanical assemblies, data acquisition, sensor technology, components selection, circuit analysis, circuit board layout and design, and electrical and mechanical assembly. Ability to successfully manage multiple projects tasks with minimal supervision.
You will be directly involved in setting up bench and field testing of equipment, hardware, software and evaluating test results to ensure drawing, specifications and procedures are complete, current and appropriate for their purpose and are released to other departments in a timely manner. Other important tasks include acting as a resource liaison, providing training and guidance and instruction to others as required. You will also be involved with sustaining engineering activities including product improvement efforts and material review board (MRB).
We are looking for a motivated candidate with a bachelor's degree in electronics engineering plus 5-8 years' experience in a progressive new product R&D environment. The right candidate will demonstrate inventive, creative approaches to problem solving and be able to evaluate designs for electronics system modules and printed circuit boards. A background in electronics design, including analog and digital circuit design, microcontrollers, sensors, date acquisition and sensor technology. In addition, you will have proficiency with electronics CAD simulation and design packages, be able to perform analysis and interpret experimental data, formulate, and communicate conclusions. Experience with the use of standard and advanced laboratory measurement and test equipment as well as an understanding in the area of software engineering as it related to embedded firmware for data acquisition and control, as well as GUI and applications software is a requirement.
