The Opportunity
We're growing and expanding our eCommerce leadership team with a Director, Digital Merchandising. You'll lead our Digital Merchandising and Product Information Teams, own the mec.ca catalog, search and discovery customer experience. A proven people leader who keeps the team focused on the right work at the right time, while also being hands-on with digital tools to diagnose pain points and reduce friction in the customer journey. Your leadership will ensure MEC's online shopping experience is dynamic, engaging, and aligned with our omni-channel retail strategy.
As the Director, Digital Merchandising you'll be responsible for overseeing seasonal site launches, digital content strategy, and the execution of a digital merchandising roadmap that drives online revenue growth. You will leverage market insights, demand indicators, and customer data to optimize product discovery, site navigation, and digital merchandising tools. Your role includes driving team performance, ensuring seamless onboarding of new products, and continuously refining our product taxonomy and content presentation standards to improve conversion.
This role is ideal for a leader who thrives in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment and is eager to push the boundaries of digital merchandising to create an exceptional online shopping experience. As the Director, Digital Merchandising you'll be:
- Lead the Digital Merchandising and Product Information teams, fostering engagement, performance, and professional development.
- Own and drive the Digital Merchandising strategy and roadmap to increase online revenue year-over-year.
- Develop and execute a digital content strategy aligned with the Marketing calendar, proactively informed by demand indicators, site analytics, and market trends.
- Participate in cross-functional go-to-market processes, delivering digital insights on customer behavior, industry best practices, and site performance metrics.
- Plan ahead, consider inputs from Merchandising and Marketing to create a seasonal digital merchandising launch plan to ensure we're ready for Spring and Fall deliveries. Create a workback schedule in collaboration with stakeholders and execute.
- Manage and optimize digital merchandising tools, including product information management, onsite search, recommendations, and reviews, ensuring maximum value from toolsets and vendors.
- Ensure timely onboarding of new products, accurate categorization, and optimization of taxonomy, facets and navigation for improved product findability.
- Create and manage a homepage and digital content calendar that brings MEC's differentiators to the forefront across the customer shopping journey.
- Introduce and enforce content standards for product information to modernize and improve product presentation.
- Dive into the week-to-week work, collaborating closely with teams to address their needs and deliver results.
- Inform new site feature development and work closely with the Digital Product and UX teams
- Responsibility for key eCommerce metrics and reporting, including micro-conversions, bounce rates, conversion rate, booked sales, and margin.
- Complete various individual and team-based projects as requested by VP, eCommerce and Digital Experience
The Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in digital merchandising, eCommerce, or related fields, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of digital merchandising principles, customer journey optimization, and eCommerce best practices.
- Experience managing digital merchandising tools, such as search, recommendations, and product information management systems.
- Proven ability to analyze data, identify trends, and apply insights to improve conversion rates and online sales performance.
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and collaborating with marketing, product, and UX teams.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives and drive execution.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a track record of mentoring and developing high-performing teams.
- Familiarity with site analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics) and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Experience in the outdoor retail industry or an omni-channel retail environment is a plus.
- Passion for delivering an exceptional online shopping experience and staying ahead of digital merchandising trends.
