Job Responsibilities

This position is for an experienced Registered Architect located within the Division of Procurement Service - Office of State Engineer.

Job Responsibilities:

Provides comprehensive guidance to customers in the procurement of professional design services and construction services as expeditiously as possible, in a manner best suited to their needs, and in full compliance with the Consolidated Procurement Code. Ensures that all construction for the state provides facilities that are safe for people to work and live.

Guides state agencies in complying with procurement code, regulations, and procedure while procuring construction related services by providing procurement training, procurement advice and guidance, and reviewing procurement documentation.

Reviews design and bidding documents for state construction project, using the building standards adopted in the Manual for Planning and Execution of State Permanent Improvement (Manual), to ensure the documents comply with all applicable life-safety and property protection requirements.

Guide state agencies in best practices of contract administration using knowledge gained from experience in the construction industry and training as well as guidance published in the Manual.

Monitors state project during construction to ensure the work complies with the building codes by reviewing inspection reports submitted by inspectors for notation of deficiencies and corrective action taken on deficiencies. Performs certificate of occupancy inspections at close of projects to assure building are safe to occupy under the standards of the building codes.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree in architecture and eight years' work experience as a registered architect. A master's degree in architecture may be substituted for two years of the required work experience.

Position requires registration in South Carolina as an Architect, or the ability to obtain SC registration within six months of hiring.
