WHO WE ARE
The primary focus of The Office of the County Executive is to provide policy direction, reinforce accountability, and ensure that county departments provide effective and efficient services to our residents. The office oversees the enforcement of the laws of Montgomery County and oversees operations and services of over 30 executive branch departments and a 10,000-person workforce supporting a jurisdiction that is over 500 square miles with 1.06 million residents.
The Montgomery County Business Center (the "Business Center") is part of the Office of the County Executive, and this diverse team of highly professional staff provide comprehensive services to thousands of small business owners each year - answering their questions, connecting them to critical resources, and navigating the County's processes. The team assisted more than 2,000 small business owners last year.
The Business Center staff cover a wide variety of services and programs. Business Center team members include:
Grant and Contracting staff supporting the delivery of almost $2.0 million in services through contracts with local resource partners, and more than $4.0 million in grants to businesses.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Office of the County Executive is seeking a Manager for the Business Center. This position is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of this team, ensuring that the County provides consistent and quality customer service to businesses, impactful programming, and promotion of the County in general. This position reports to the Assistant Chief Administrative Officer responsible for economic development and works closely with the Special Projects Manager
What You'll Be Doing
The Business Center Manager is an executive level position responsible for all aspects of the Business Center's operations. Key responsibilities include:
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in small business assistance, economic development, or related field, two (2) years of which were in a supervisory or executive capacity.
Note: The term "executive" is further defined as a management or high-level position involved in technical research, management advisory services, or policy-making. An "executive" is an individual who exerts considerable influence on organizational policy, plans and operations through technical research, management advisory services, and/or policy-making duties and responsibilities.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

What You'll Be Doing

- Coordinate the County's business service delivery that includes proactive outreach, wrap-around assistance, and navigating governmental processes.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations and facility management of the County's Innovation Centers.
- Manage and administer the County's contracts for business support services.
- Develop and implement programs to support the County's business community.
- Prepare all budget requests and supporting documents for the team's operating and capital budgets.
- Oversee the data collection and reporting of the team's day-to-day work and activities.
- Collaborate with Executive-level staff in the Executive Branch, other County-funded agencies, and business leaders.
- Ensure quality and consistency in all service delivery and work products for the Business Center staff.
- Manage special projects as assigned by the Assistant Chief Administrative Officer or Special Projects Manager.
- The Business Center Manager must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-performance environment, and to work on multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. The position requires strong communications and managerial expertise. Additionally, the person selected for this position is expected to help foster an inclusive workplace where all staff feel comfortable and respected.
