Introduction

Prince William County is a rapidly growing jurisdiction with continually evolving transportation needs and challenges. Among these challenges is the need to improve the transportation network and user experiences by creating safer multi-modal alternatives. The Department's Traffic Safety Engineering section achieves this by working with the public, elected officials, and partner agencies to identify and implement various traffic safety improvements and programs. The Street Lighting Program Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting mobility and safety in the County.

About This Role:

In the role of Street Lighting Program Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing and implementing the Prince William County Department of Transportation's Street Lighting Program and related projects. You will work closely with elected officials to respond to public requests and support the Department's Inspection and Planning Teams with developer streetlights, plans and plats. This will include evaluating the streetlighting needs, developing streetlighting plans, and implementing the plan from concept, through design, review, approval and installation. In addition, you will work with the major power utility companies to coordinate the ongoing maintenance and repair of existing streetlights in the County.
In addition, you will play a key role in supporting Department leadership in working with other agencies and departments to address operational, mobility and safety concerns related to streetlights. You will be responsible for identifying and implementing streetlight projects and initiatives that improve traffic safety and support the County's strategic transportation objectives. This will often involve working with partner agencies, as well as the neighboring Towns and Cities, VDOT, Utility Providers, private developers and communities.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or G.E.D. and 6 years of technical experience related to planning, architecture or engineering.

Preferences:
  • Experience in public engagement
  • Right-of-way work experience
  • Some familiarity with streetlighting infrastructure
  • Able to create maps and convey information graphically
  • Experience in providing estimates/estimate requests
  • Able to work in extreme weather conditions- to include night work
  • Able to read site plans and plats and produce estimate request and edit existing graphics to convey requested work

Special Requirements:

Ability to drive a public vehicle, work in all weather conditions, use hand tools, chemicals, and conduct work/reviews on bridges.

Work Schedule:

This position is expected to work normal office hours (37.5/week) with the ability to attend night and weekend meetings as needed and will occasionally be required to conduct activities, such as reviews, outside of normal business hours. Since this role is expected to lead and coordinate activities, it is expected that the candidate will frequently be present in the office to ensure the smooth workflow across multiple teams and staff, with the potential to flex their schedule and work remotely depending on the team's schedule.

Starting Salary Range:

$76,069.50 - $104,676.50 Annually
