The IFC Controllers Department is responsible for effectively and efficiently managing IFC's Financial Operations (loan, equity and short-term finance operations, and back-office treasury support operations), Financial Reporting (including reporting and analysis, portfolio review), Accounting Policy & Implementation, Internal Controls, and Financial Systems and Transformation. The Department comprises approximately 140 diverse and highly skilled staff, based in Washington DC, and Chennai.

The Corporate Reporting unit (CNTCR) within the Controllers Department is responsible for preparing timely and accurate periodic financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders and facilitating the external audit and issuance of audit and review opinions by the external auditors on IFC's annual and quarterly financial statements. The CNTCR unit provides assurance on the integrity of the financial ledgers and financial information. It is responsible for coordination of the monthly closing process, including advising and liaising with the decentralized accounting business units. The team also works with other units in determining the impact of new and proposed accounting standards and new complex transactions in Financial Statements and Management reports.

IFC Controllers Department is seeking a Senior Financial Officer in the CNTCR unit in Washington DC to help support across all functions described above, including the preparation of IFC's quarterly and annual financial reporting, and perform analytical reviews of business unit results for management reporting.

Duties & Responsibilities

The CNTCR Senior Financial Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of IFC's financial reporting. This position is responsible for overseeing the financial and management reporting function. The successful candidate will perform the following duties and responsibilities:
Lead the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and leveraging automation tools for increased efficiency.
Oversee the monthly closing process and IFC's General Ledger (SAP) to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, utilizing automated reconciliation processes.
Develop and implement strategies to streamline and enhance the efficiency of monthly and annual closing processes, leveraging digital tools and technologies.
Prepare and/or review internal management reports, responding to information inquiries from internal and external stakeholders to support financial decision-making.
Design and implement advanced analytics reports using automated solutions, enhancing the analytical review processes with AI-powered insights.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the WBG organization to align and integrate automation initiatives as well as corporate wide initiatives, focusing on seamless data flow and process optimization.
Provide mentorship and supervision to junior team members to ensure growth, bench strength and contribute to their career development.

Selection Criteria

Education and Experience:
Certified Public Accountant or equivalent designation (e.g., CPA, CA, ACCA or equivalent) and a master's degree in accounting or finance.
Minimum of 12 years of experience in corporate or public accounting, with a strong preference for background in financial services, particularly in Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) or Big Four accounting firms.
Sound understanding of U.S. GAAP accounting standards.
Proven expertise in technical accounting, reporting, and internal controls over financial reporting.

Technical Skills:
Advanced proficiency in using digital tools and technologies including:
Low code/no code solutions for managing large databases
Generative AI and CoPilot
Data visualization techniques for creating impactful dashboards
Strong background in Office 365 products
Relevant experience with scripting languages such as SQL and python (a plus)
Knowledge of SAP (preferred)

Other Skills:
Exceptional analytical skills and demonstrated project management experience.
Outstanding communication skills (in English), both written and oral, with ability to use creative communication methods, such as storytelling, to enhance financial reporting and presentations.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and anticipate and respond quickly to evolving situations.

Information Technology and Systems: Demonstrates understanding of the functions and operations of pertinent IT systems and applications. Provides inputs to IT systems improvement efforts based on day to day working experience and knowledge of the systems.
Analytical Thinking: Coordinates the information gathering and reporting process. Reviews trends and compares to expectations. Conducts analysis to define problems and prepares responses to anticipated questions.
Policies and Procedures: Demonstrates detailed knowledge of policies and procedures in related fields.
Risks and Controls: Leads by example and serves as good practice champion in completing internal control procedures, including understanding impact beyond own immediate functional areas.
Communication: Adapts the communication style appropriate for the intended audience. Adopts an inclusive approach to communication as appropriate to the situation, so as to ensure adequate partner participation. Presents information effectively and encourages feedback.
Project Management: Understands and utilizes the concepts of project management, as they relate to implementation of a project.
