The Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing accounting operations, ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. This leadership role manages a high-performing team, oversees audits, strengthens internal controls, and collaborates with executive leadership to drive financial strategy and process improvements. Success in this position requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and financial expertise to maintain compliance and support the organization's continued growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop, and mentor accounting and compliance staff.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance, audits, and anti-money laundering measures.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Collaborate with Tribal accounting and executive leadership.
  • Drive process improvements and department initiatives.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards.
  • Supervise Accounting, Audit, Internal Controls, and Compliance Staff


This position requires exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership skills to manage critical financial and operational functions effectively.

Minimum Qualifications:

REQUIRED

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or equivalent professional accreditation
  • Ten years of experience in accounting and auditing
  • Five years of supervisory experience
  • Gaming experience


PREFERRED

  • MBA
  • Experience working with tribal entities

Competencies:
The Director of Accounting will possess exceptional communication skills and a strong commitment to customer service, ensuring smooth collaboration across departments. They will have in-depth knowledge of casino policies, gaming regulations, internal controls, and tribal/state compacts, coupled with proficiency in MS Office and relevant accounting software. Key competencies include excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities, paired with critical thinking and analytical skills for effective decision-making. This leader will thrive both independently and in a team environment, demonstrating adaptability, proactive problem-solving, and unwavering professionalism. Expertise in anti-money laundering regulations, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), IRS regulations, and meticulous record-keeping is essential. With a focus on leadership, performance management, budgeting, planning, and scheduling, the Director of Accounting will play a pivotal role in maintaining compliance and driving excellence in our financial operations. Above all, the ability to handle sensitive information with the utmost confidentiality is a must.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires the physical ability to sit or stand for up to 10 hours a day in an office or gaming floor environment, with frequent walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crouching, pushing, and pulling. Candidates should possess strong hand-eye coordination, finger dexterity, and the ability to concentrate in loud or busy settings. The position involves occasional lifting of items up to 25 lbs. and working in a smoke-filled environment.

Additional Requirements:

Our facilities operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year which may require this position to work evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.

All applicants must obtain a Class III A license as required by the Puyallup Tribal Gaming Regulatory Office and the Washington State Gaming Commission. Pre-employment drug testing is required for all positions. However, the use of marijuana will not disqualify an applicant unless the position requires driving a company vehicle.
