Status: 100%, Full-Time, Regular, Exempt

Probation: 180 days

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Los Angeles LGBT Center Culinary Arts Department reveals the power of food to unite our intergenerational campus while simultaneously helping members to start exciting new careers in the hospitality industry. A certified social enterprise, our culinary training program enrolls 100 students a year and produces over 450 daily meals for Center members. We also operate the Center's caf, Liberation Coffee House, and provide event catering services.

JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Culinary Training and Operations, the Culinary and Catering Manager is responsible for coordinating event and catering services, managing client relationships, and overseeing front-of-house staffing. This position supports vendor and inventory management, ensures compliance with food service standards, and maintains key financial and administrative functions for the Culinary Arts Department.

% of Role ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

25% Client and Event Management
Coordinate event and catering sales with clients, including menu selection, room booking, A/V needs, and rental logistics.
Create banquet event orders and invoices for catering and events.
Manage client relationships, including post-service follow-up to ensure satisfaction.
Oversee catering orders to ensure on-time setup or delivery, appropriate staffing, and day-of coordination.

5% Staffing and Vendor Coordination
Schedule and track hours for front-of-house catering staff; manage vendor payments for external staffing agencies.
Assist with vendor management, including delivery schedules, invoice payments, quality issues, and credits for missing items.
Maintain vendor records including 1099s, registration, liability forms, and other finance department requirements.
Monitor vendor pricing and ensure alignment with food costing database.

10% Food Service and Inventory Oversight
Manage rotational member menu and ensure compliance with Department of Aging requirements.
Maintain inventory systems and monitor compliance with procedures, including tracking waste, sales alignment, and variance reporting.
Support point-of-sale system maintenance, including menu pricing and food costing.

50% Financial and Administrative Support
Manage departmental financial duties including vendor payments, reimbursements, credit card reconciliation, and budget tracking.
Coordinate administrative functions to support efficient department operations.
Prepare reports and documents following departmental protocols.
Order and maintain inventory of office, maintenance, and facility supplies; track all supply orders.
Enter data and maintain databases to track member and student participation.
Assist in planning departmental activities.

10% Management Responsibilities (Budgetary & Direct Supervisory)
Provide day-to-day oversight and guidance to the Catering Coordinator including delegating and reviewing tasks and work product, monitoring quality and timeliness of order fulfillment and service
Offering training, coaching, and support to ensure expectations for customer service, administrative accuracy, and operational efficiency are being met
Assess workload, provide feedback, and support professional development

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A passion for the Center's work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
2+ years of experience in office operations, event planning, or hospitality management
Enthusiasm for food and its ability to bring people together.
Proficient in event financial management, including cost estimation, quote generation, deposit reconciliation, invoice processing, and vendor payment tracking.
Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills with a high level of attention to detail.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Valid CA Driver License, insurable, and access to reliable transportation
