Job Description

The Manager of Multimedia is a key role within Syracuse University's Marketing team, responsible for both hands-on creation of multimedia content through videography, photography, editing or producing, as well as leading a solutions-oriented team. This role requires a strong creative portfolio, a deep understanding of digital storytelling, and experience managing a creative team within a matrixed organization. The Manager works in lockstep with the content/digital teams to bring to life, in compelling ways, multimedia stories/content related to people, activities, and information that aims to galvanize target audiences in service of advancing University goals and priorities, in timely and relevant ways.

Education and Experience
  • A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 8 years of experience developing strategic creative, multimedia programs.
  • A minimum of 2 years leading teams or serving in a supervisory role.
  • Strong creative portfolio, to demonstrate multimedia excellence as part of broader campaigns that yielded tangible results. Showcasing competitive expertise in video and photo production.
  • Proven experience in managing multimedia teams and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of multimedia production processes.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.


Skills and Knowledge
  • This position requires hands on production experience and experience managing creative teams to produce compelling videography/photography content under tight deadlines. The candidate demonstrates a deep understanding of digital media trends, social platforms, and audience engagement strategies.
  • A commitment to storytelling excellence aligning with Syracuse University's mission, along with the ability to thrive in a matrixed environment.
  • Individual must excel at multimedia delivery across diverse platforms, leveraging a creative portfolio to support broader campaigns.
  • Outstanding communication skills are critical, while interfacing with leadership, colleagues, and diverse stakeholders.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with urgency and a calm demeanor under pressure is crucial.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop is required, as is familiarity with asset management systems.
  • This role demands effective collaboration across University departments.
  • Physical demands include close visual acuity, typical hearing levels to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels, transporting/setting up equipment, standing/kneeling for extended periods, and lifting up to 50 lbs. repeatedly.


Responsibilities
  • Manages day-to-day operation of multimedia team, ensuring creative output brings the brand to life in meaningful and dynamic ways to advance the brand and organizational goals. Serves as a working manager who dedicates 50% of their time to producing, shooting, and editing quick-turn digital content in close collaboration with the marketing division's content and digital teams; ensuring dynamic, relevant, engaging, and timely digital storytelling. Manages solution-oriented creative teams using strong leadership abilities.
  • Works closely with the content and digital teams, collaborating across departments to align multimedia storytelling with the University's strategic goals. Coordinate with the Managers of Video and Photography to allocate additional creative resources, including motion graphic designers, producers, photographers, and videographers, as needed. Navigate and collaborate within a cross-functional environment, managing stakeholder expectations while driving innovative and effective multimedia content creation. Deep understanding of digital media trends, social platforms, and audience engagement strategies. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative setting within a matrixed organization. Commitment to storytelling excellence that aligns with Syracuse University's mission and goals.
  • Works with ED of Multimedia to build and effectively implement strategic and operational plan for multimedia area. Understands technological needs and helps implement effective workflow within team, project management system and other teams within the Division. Streamlines process and puts in place successful infrastructure, particularly related to quick turn projects. Ensures product is delivered on time and on budget. Is an effective communicator. The Manager is excellent at project planning, and trouble-shooting to ensure teams of shooters and editors are nimble, resourceful and agile in moving dozens of projects with speed from concept through completion.
