Reporting to the Head of Investment Research, the Manager, Public Investment Research provides essential investment research to Rally's portfolio managers and the CIO for decision-making, working across the investment and client teams. Getting to know fund managers and direct public equity investments across Canada and globally, the Manager, Public Investment Research will connect the client investment mandates to public investment products and model portfolios.

Salary: $100,000 - $110,000 a year plus bonus

Getting to know fund managers and direct public equity investments across Canada and globally, the Manager, Public Investment Research will connect the client investment mandates to public investment products and model portfolios.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Research and Diligence
- Source, lead and conduct investment research and detailed due diligence on model portfolio investments which include sustainable and impact direct public equities, third party fund managers and ETFs
- Collect and analyze financial and impact data from a variety of sources (annual reports, press releases, broker reports and other company documents), in order to monitor current holdings from an impact as well as financial perspective, and to identify possible new investments and develop impact theses for the funds
- Develop and maintain a strong database of sustainable and impact public investment options across asset classes including public equities, fixed income and alternative strategies using both quantitative and qualitative analysis
- Manage relationships with various fund managers and product issuers
- Find ways to improve the rigor and efficiency of our investment research and due diligence process
Model Portfolio Implementation and Monitoring
- Contribute to Rally's public investment model portfolio's oversight and execution by utilizing investment tools and market research to make actionable recommendations, including detailed analysis of risk, return, sustainability, impact and diversification
- Monitor the impact progress in positions and products used within model portfolios and communicate impacts and actionable recommendations
- Lead Rally's proxy voting and corporate engagement efforts for public investments, in alignment with Rally's Proxy Voting Policy
- Execute trading of both direct and third-party fund manager public investments
- Support quarterly financial and impact performance reporting for portfolios
Cross-Functional Support
- Support client engagements including mandates for investment search and due diligence, impact monitoring and reporting and portfolio management. Such engagements will require accountability for client deliverables, processes and budget management
- Assist in providing thought leadership and insights regarding macroeconomics, impact, portfolio strategy and asset allocation
- Actively participate in business development, marketing activities and presentations to support growth of the firm
- Develop and implement strategic priorities and collaborative projects with the firm's leadership
QUALIFICATIONS
On your resume, we ask that you demonstrate the following:
- 5-7 years of relevant work experience in public investment fund due diligence, portfolio management, direct public equity investing, research and monitoring
- Detailed understanding of the investment and fund management process
- Experience conducting financial, attribution, modelling and business analysis and impact analysis of third-party fund managers to assess aspects like the viability of a fund product, business model, stress testing, return profile and market trend analysis
- Experience conducting fundamental research, monitoring and reporting of direct public equities and creating model portfolio strategies
- Experience working with a range of investors such as foundations, families, high net worth individuals, corporates and financial institutions
- Relevant degree or equivalent work experience. Relevant professional credentials (CFA etc.) or a Master level education is an asset
- Self-starter with clear demonstration of strong project management and organizational skills
- Strong preference for prior sustainability, ESG, or impact investing experience in public markets
- Fluency in French considered an asset
- That you are legally able to work in Canada without restrictions
