GENERAL SUMMARY:

Roland Park Country School, a K-12 independent girls' school, seeks a full-time Middle School History Teacher to begin August 2025. The history teacher reports directly to the Middle School Head and is a valued member of the division and history department. The individual in this role will foster an exciting, dynamic, and creative learning environment wherein students acquire inquiry skills and an in-depth understanding of historical thinking. This individual collaborates with passionate educators to engage and inspire students to develop an interest in authentic historical analysis, research, and writing.

We are a collaborative group of educators: teamwork permeates the department overall, and decisions are derived through discussion and consensus building. Through our curriculum, we aim to cultivate informed, analytical, and critical scholars who not only identify problems but orient themselves toward solutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plans innovative, developmentally appropriate classroom activities and assignments designed to engage a diverse student population.
  • Exhibits a love for learning history and an eagerness to share a passion with an enthusiastic student body.
  • Meets regularly with the Middle School Head, the Middle School Team, and the Middle School Academic Department and attends grade-level team meetings as needed.
  • Builds curriculum, works collaboratively with colleagues, and supports the developmental needs of adolescent girls.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of formative and summative assessment in ways that meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Integrates interactive digital tools into the curriculum as appropriate.
  • Serves as an academic advisor to Middle School students including supervising extracurricular activities.
  • Attends professional conferences and workshops as needed.
  • Understands the social-emotional needs of adolescents
  • Respects and values the School's Mission and Core Values
  • Creates a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
  • Has other reasonable duties as assigned by the Middle School Head or Head of School.

  • Strong work ethic and high level of integrity.
  • Experience creating differentiated learning opportunities aligned with formative assessments and continuous feedback to optimize student outcomes preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology in content delivery/skill development.
  • Values a socially inclusive environment and responds with sensitivity and awareness to the needs of a diverse student population and their learning needs.
  • Familiarity with giving and receiving feedback for professional growth.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in history or a related field required. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • Experience with inquiry-based learning pedagogies that put students at the center of their learning.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Remain in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Repeat motion of wrists, hands, and fingers to operate standard office equipment, such as a computer and phone.
  • Requires visual acuity to read a variety of written materials.
  • Physical agility: stand, kneel, walk, run, push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, reach overhead, crouch, and respond to emergencies.
  • Must be able to move around and access all parts of the campus upon request, which includes gym, turf, fields, dining hall, etc.
  • Occasionally ascend and descend stairs in emergency situations.


WORK CONDITIONS:
  • The Middle School History Teacher is a full-time, exempt 10 month position.
  • The individual in this position is expected to work during all hours as may be assigned by the School as well as other hours for events and activities.
  • The Middle School History Teacher is expected to perform their job duties on campus, unless otherwise permitted by the Head of School.


COMPENSATION DISCLOSURE: In accordance with Maryland's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, we are committed to providing transparent wage information for all posted job opportunities. The salary range for this position is $54,000 - $107,500 annually. Compensation is determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

BENEFITS AND ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION: Additionally, this position includes a comprehensive benefits package and other forms of compensation, including:

  • Paid time off for full time and full time reduced employees: vacation days (for 12 month employees), sick leave, personal days, winter break and spring break based on school calendar schedule.
