Job Summary
The Organix Production Assistant Manager is responsible for supporting the Fertilizer Production Manager in the daily operations of the fertilizer department. This role is integral in ensuring efficient and effective fertilizer production processes, including overseeing personnel, maintaining equipment, and ensuring product quality. The Assistant Manager will play a key role in managing production schedules, ensuring safety compliance, and optimizing labor and material resources to meet customer demands for both organic and synthetic fertilizers. Personnel Management:
- Hiring Staffing: Assist in hiring production labor specific to fertilizer operations, ensuring that team members are equipped with the necessary skills to operate machinery and perform tasks safely.
- Training Development: Provide training to new hires and existing team members on fertilizer production processes, focusing on safety, quality control, and operational efficiency.
- Team Oversight: Support the Production Manager in supervising daily production activities, managing shift schedules, and ensuring that labor is utilized efficiently across fertilizer production tasks.
- Safety Protocols: Ensure strict adherence to safety guidelines in the fertilizer department, conducting safety meetings, and monitoring compliance with OSHA regulations.
Fertilizer Production Operations:
- Production Planning: Collaborate with the Production Manager to plan and execute fertilizer production schedules based on customer orders and inventory needs, ensuring production runs are completed on time.
- Daily Operations: Oversee daily fertilizer production activities, including blending, bagging, and packaging of both synthetic and organic fertilizer products.
- Quality Assurance: Monitor fertilizer product quality through regular sampling, testing, and weight checks to ensure that finished products meet company standards and customer specifications.
- Equipment Maintenance: Assist in managing the maintenance and repair of production equipment used in fertilizer blending, bagging, and palletizing, ensuring that all machinery is running efficiently to minimize downtime.
Inventory Materials Management:
- Inventory Control: Manage monthly inventories for fertilizer ingredients, packaging materials, and finished goods, ensuring accurate stock levels for uninterrupted production.
- Materials Inspection: Inspect all incoming raw materials, including organic and synthetic fertilizer components, to verify quality and compliance with production requirements.
- Logistics Support: Oversee the movement of raw materials and finished products in and out of the fertilizer department, coordinating with the logistics team to ensure timely deliveries and shipments.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist the Production Manager in identifying opportunities to optimize fertilizer production processes, improving both efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of fertilizer formulas and production methods in collaboration with the R D and quality assurance teams.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, with a focus on supporting the overall goals of the fertilizer department and the broader production team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities to effectively train and manage a diverse team, fostering a collaborative and safety-focused work environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing production demands, ensuring continuous improvement in processes and product quality.
- Familiarity with production management software and tools for tracking inventory, scheduling, and quality control metrics, ensuring compliance with company and industry standards.
- Proficient in operating and maintaining specialized equipment used in fertilizer production, including blending towers, pellet mills, bagging systems, and palletizing equipment.
- Strong understanding of production scheduling and inventory management to ensure efficient use of resources and timely fulfillment of customer orders.
- In-depth knowledge of fertilizer production processes, including both organic and synthetic products, with a keen awareness of safety regulations and quality assurance standards.
Required Qualifications
- Experience operating and training employees on specialized equipment related to fertilizer production
- Experience running the following equipment,
- Grain bins
- Augers and conveying equipment
- Legs
- 2-3 years of experience in a production or manufacturing environment, preferably in agriculture, compost or fertilizer production.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple aspects of the fertilizer production process while adhering to deadlines.
- At least 3 years of proven leadership experience in managing teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Fertilizer blending towers, pellet mills and associated equipment, bagging systems (both automatic and manual), palletizing equipment and shrink-wrap machinery, forklifts, skid steers, and other material-handling equipment
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Knowledge of both synthetic and organic fertilizers, including composting and soil management practices.
