Description:

The Indirect Tax Manager will be responsible for overseeing the organization's indirect tax compliance and planning activities in both the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. This role will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with sales tax, use tax, GST and HST Tax, personal property tax and other indirect tax regulations applicable in both jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in indirect tax matters, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex tax issues effectively.

The Indirect Tax Manager will report to the Corporate Controller.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of sales and use tax returns in the U.S. and GST/HST returns in Canada, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage the indirect tax provision process, including the calculation of tax liabilities and ensuring accurate reporting in financial statements for both jurisdictions.
  • Conduct tax research and analysis to support indirect tax planning initiatives and provide guidance on tax implications of business transactions in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Monitor changes in indirect tax legislation in both countries and assess their impact on the organization, providing recommendations for compliance and strategic planning.
  • Manage exemption certificates to ensure compliance and optimize tax benefit
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, accounting, and operations, to ensure alignment on indirect tax strategies and compliance efforts across.
  • Prepare and review tax-related documentation, including exemption certificates and tax disclosures for financial statements, ensuring compliance with jurisdiction requirements.
  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors and auditors, coordinating responses to inquiries and ensuring timely resolution of indirect tax issues.
  • Develop and implement indirect tax policies and procedures to enhance compliance and efficiency in tax operations.
  • Provide training and support to internal stakeholders on indirect tax matters and compliance requirements specific to both countries.
  • Lead and mentor the indirect tax team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or JD preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in indirect tax compliance and planning, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of sales and use tax in the U.S., GST/HST in Canada, and Personal Property Tax.
  • Proficient in tax software and financial modeling tools
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
